HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000 HDS721010KLA330 (0A34193) 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive. Improved latency over the 750GB drives I've seen, too. Now to wait for Seagate's response.

My god...I don't think I could use that much space if I left my computer on and did nothing but download for like 4 years.  Is there any real reason to have this much space?  I don't really know anything about computers but I have a 200 gig hard drive and I don't use even close to that.

In the tradition of Mr. Gates, huh?

I have 500GB of space. It's all full, and I don't even have a quarter of my stuff installed. Great drive for an amateur video editor (who can't afford massive rackmounts). I'd buy four right now if I wasn't setting aside petty cash for a new rig.

Maxed out 160 (2 80s), h'yar.

One concern, its a Deathstar... Could I really trust it with 1TB of my precious data? Will it eat itself?

Also, its 1 per customer. Darn.

It is a Deathstar. That's why I mentioned Seagate in the op.

I believe Seagate drives are on a 5-year warranty standard. Reliability is key if one is going for large volume storage. they obviously got the balls to back their product with a warranty like that.

That's what people said when 250GB drives were released. More of the Gates Syndrome.

Isn't it cheaper to get 4 250gb drives and run them in raid?

You'd have thought they'd have cottoned on to the idea by now that no one will touch a Deathstar with a bargepole, no matter how fancy they make it.

haha, I had a bit more than 1.5TB storage (900GB of that RAID 5'ed) in my main PC and it was pretty much full. Also I have another 80GB on my lappy that is full (though a large part is identical to my main set-up), and 300GB in my dads PC I use. Just got an external 500GB one though, so space worries have been pushed into the future a bit. And before anyone asks, my PC is full of music (150GB roughly), movies (~0.8TB + ~200 DVDs; I help one of my friend with his movie projects, so that uses a lot of space), programs/games/data (~200GB), porn (~200GB). I used to do my backups to DVD, but now I just use my external HD. Seeing as I got it cheap, I might actually buy another one. I am a pretty active torrent user, and I try to get my hands on all my friends data.

oh and apparentely deathstars have gotten a lot better. still won't touch any though. Seagate + WD FTW!!

I think I had two Deathstars in RAID, worked fine for me...

What about a 1TB SATA II Raptor? In RAID 0!!

I have 350gb of stuff. 1tb would be easy to fill out. I would just install every game i owned, get no cd cracks for all the singleplayer ones then i could play anything whenever. Aswell as the movies, TV and music ive got.

it would make sense to buy it for just to have it.... but you could buy multiple raid settups that are 4 times the speed of the terabyte... and even more storage

anyone have more than that? 200GB is a shit load. Also I can always download more if I'm bored with what I have

I used to think that my 300GB was enough for strorage. One LAN party later, and it went from being half full to having 300kb left on it.

As someone said before, it probably would be cheaper to get 4 x 250s and just use them, but then thats 4 times the weight, space and plugs taken up.
