Hi there,

I've recently just did a install/format of Windows Xp, all drivers installed, ATi Catayst 7.4, Latest Nvidia Nforce 4 drivers and all the other drivers, sound cards. (and AMD dual core optimiser to stop disconnects)

Everything s fine, quick boots, logins and loading times, BF2 works fine except for one thing, usually I Alt-Tab out of BF2, but ATM when I Alt-Tab out of BF2 or Alt-Esc everything else become extremely choppy, its still responsive, my 2gb of ram can handle it but everything is choppy and tearing, just like when you do a fresh install of windows, like when there isn't a graphics card driver installed. It's hard to explain but it's impossible to use anything due to the tearing.

So does anyone know what the solution could to this? I've searched on many forums but no luck...

Thanks

and it stays that way? My guess is because the resolution you play in is lower than the resolution you have on your desktop, so usually it takes some time to get everything good again, especially when a program like BF2 is running on the background.
But if it stays that way, I don't really know, if it isn't like that when you quit BF2, you shouldn't worry too much, some games just can't cope with alt-tab that well.

wow what a worthwhile response....i bet that is just what he was hoping for.

@ OP-are you sure you have the latest drivers?
is there any way that the dual core optimizer could be the issue? have you used it before without problems?
it sounds like a graphics problem, but if it cant be resolved just dont alt tab out anymore...i know that sucks, but if you cant get it figured out......
anyway, good luck and let us know what comes of it.

Firstly I run the same res in game to my windows res (1680*1050) using a Dell 2007WFP with +szx 1680 +szy 1050 on the Bf2 short cut. On my old install I used Dual core optimiser as well, no issues with that.

Just as I've typed this post I've had Bf2 minimized, it seemed smooth then, like it should be, i was able to scroll etc. But then I alttabbed back in adn out and its choppy again.

Very Strange......

NINJA EDIT: I've just tried going into the "switch user" (Win+L) screen then coming back in which has work fine, not choppy-ness or anything

Well it's not quite a Fix but it works

Maybe it is because you are running it on widescreen..bf2 doesn't like widescreen?
