Is it only when you join, do you have normal sounds during play ?

normal sounds are there, it's just that there is the horrid sound on top of that and it's on all the time,

but if i disconnect then the manky sound goes and it will be fine till i join (and load fully) another server

Check your sound settings. Some older soundcards don't work properly if you enable Hardware sound. Go to BF2 options, and select Software sound and try that instead.
Unless you have a more recent Creative Audigy, or one of the X-Fi cards I would recommend against Hardware sound in BF2 Same goes if you don't have a Creative soundcard, or you are using onboard sound.

So it`s just with BF2, every other sounds from music and other games are fine ?

If so you better check your sound settings and if nothing odd is found there i think you need to reinstall BF2

A recent event or have you had it like this with BF2 like always ?

Did you check your sound settings first?? It really does sound like you have it on Hardware and your soundcard doesn't support it.
