I saw a couple of good topics here on the changing of game prefs and i decided to try it out. Of course i have a copy of my BF2 Locals and i did play with the files but i did nothing that i didn't seem to understand right on the spot. I changed simple, minute things and now i can't load bf2.

I copied the orignals back over and restarted my computer and when i double click BF2 i get the BF2 sign>black screen>then suddenly i'm back at the desktop. I also tried from the disc and when i look at the menu my "Play Online Now" and "Play BF2" buttons are shaded while everything else is orange. Help me out?

I had something similar when BF2 would not start.

Make a copy of your \My Documents\Battlefield 2 directory - store somewhere else for backup recovery
Empty this directory (you have a copy now)

Launch the game - it will re-create everything it needs under this directory. (assuming this is the problem)
You will need to re-register your game player name.
You will need to re-create your controls/video/audio settings.
You may be able to recover file by file from your backup, until you hit the bad one!

Worst case - it does not solve your problem - replace your backup back into
My Documents\Battlefield 2

Good Luck.
