I once made an F22... It then burned in the grill in the backyard.

Nice thread, cool pics...something different...i produce Aussie model trains here in Australia, dont know how to upload pics though...
I used to have(as a kid), a big Spitfire Mk2(1/32) and other mainly 1/48 scale WW2 planes and vehicles, plus modern jets(cant remember their names) they all got broken stored badly...also had a small white metal army of skeletons and others..
Some of u guys are very good at weathering...i use all the techniques for the trains...dry brush,washes,chalk,pencil...
+1 for all who posted pics...

The biggest model I have is either my 1/48 AC-130 or my 1/24 Sea Harrier, the Sea Harrier wasn't the best kit to put together but still it was in a sale from like £90 to £20, not bad.
Also Superglueman if you type Imageshack into google and then follow the instructions you'll be able to upload your images, would like to see them.

Don't remind me...I got ohhh....25 (yes 25) unbuilt model kits in my basement!! From 1/24 rally cars, WWII German and American Armor kits and WWII and Modern Aircraft...There was a time in my youth when I could get a model done in a week. And I bought about 1 new one every week whenever I found the kit I really wanted (usually hard to find, Tamiya/Haseqawa kits, and sales when I could get them)RECONDO67 wrote:

And I got the saddest story of EVERYBODY....When I was 15 I went through this kleptomaniac stage (Person who steals stuff) During the winter I went to a Hobby Lobby, and checked out their selection of kits...I then thought I would stuff a 1/48 scale Tamiya fully detailed Corsair up the back of my jacket pretty dumb I know but that kit was expensive! I felt like a big shot...Im ashamed though.

yeah me too I got many models right now in the closet and I remember some of them are half way built i feel like a useless person for not having finished what I had started.
Its starting to sound like this thread should have been called "Show your Models that you NEVER got too building"

Got an M1 I've been "working on" for 2 years?
Did any of you build the Tamaya 1/25 scale tanks with the full interiors? I had both the Centurion & the Tiger. Awsome kits!
All the pics in here are of some amazing work - a real treat to see.

yeah, i like to make models too, but i don't take pictures of them sorry guys. besides they're hanging from my ceiling right now anyways
M.O.A.B Your weather effects coming along? After looking at all your armor models on the first page, I know you can make them all look 10x more realistic with washes. You got good camos on some of them, I say that Russian tank though needs a better flat coat, it looks a little shinny. (Not painted?)

Do most of you guys use regular brushes or air brushed paint?
Airbrush is a must if you want a nice smooth finish. You have to use proper pressure also. Maybe start with one of those airbrush/paint can-like compressors you can buy in a set at walmart for like $20. Brushes are great for detail work of course. (Small parts mainly)
If you think using an airbrush on everything is to much, be sure to get a system down for getting/putting togeather all the parts that all need to be painted the same color. I also recommend using ONLY water/acrylic paints with your airbrush. Who wants to inhale toxic fumes the enamels provide?

I use brushes for detail and aircraft, but for tanks and ground vehicles I just blast the whole thing with a can of Tamiya acrylic, wouldn't be able to have the right desert color without it.
Did it sink?!!!jord wrote:

Unfortunately I haven't had the chance, but I'm going to get some laquer soon and test it out on an old HEMTT model. Also the T-62 is painted, its aparently Flat Olive Drab, I made that whole model in one afternoon, used a spray can on it.Im_Dooomed wrote:

I used to be really into the model making, usually Infantrymen, allied/axis 1939/1945 era. But the trick i learned when modelling is the 'weathered' effect is very easy to master. Fine brushes and silver and gold/copper paints are great at applying 'scratch marks' to all vehicles. on the lines of tanks and leading edges. Battle damage was a speciality of mine too, when I master the posting up of pics I will show off some German armoured flak and Russian tanks I made a diarama with. I may take up this hobby again, thanks for renewing my interest OP. +1 for the models too, a little too neat, as in no battle damage or weather effect/ track usage. Little tricks like these really add character to the models you create and set them against the rest. +1 on your models though, awesome.

I use brushes and water-based paint over a black undercoat from a spraycan.
My layers are thus:
Undercoat (Chaos Black spraycan)
Basecoat (Ultramarines Blue over the armour)
Initial detailing (Boltgun Metal on the weapons, shoulderpads, and some bits of the backpack)
Ink wash (Blue Ink over the blue bits)
Secondary detailing (Chaos Black brushed onto the weapon casings, gun barrels, and so forth)
Final Details (Blood Red on the eyes, on the swords as blood effects, and a red 'N' on the right shoulder as a chapter symbol, Snot Green on the base to get a 'this is grass' look.)
Cleanup (carefully going back over edges I missed)
Since the models come in boxes of 10, I normally do the troops a squad at once, in a production line fashion. This way, the first ones will have dried by the time I finish the layer on the last ones. Each squad takes roughly 3 hours from box and sprue to battlefield; 1 1/2 building and one painting, with half an hour in between for the undercoat to be fully applied to each model (individually, holding the base with an old pair of needlenose pliers in order to get everything and NOT my fingers) and for it to dry.
Of course, the undercoating step normally occurs after a delay of up to weeks, due to weather. I can't spray in the rain, or in strong winds, or if it's too humid, or it won't stick or won't hit the model.
I also can't do it indoors because it stinks the house up, gets paint everywhere, and causes a fire hazard. (More so than leaving the poly cement open during assembly; that's stickier and not airborne, and smells nicer. Smells like consumerism. ^.^)
I spray the models after assembly, because the glue is a welding agent. Without plastic-on-plastic contact, it won't stick, and the sprues have detail on both sides.
Also, the superglue is INCREDIBLY ornery about what it sticks to if I'm adding metal (pewter, unless I'm scratchbuilding a part) to the model. (My best solution for that is to add blu-tac to the join and add superglue after that, creating a double bond that breaks slowly and allows for quick fixes without a scaffolding of books, DVD cases, and boxes to hold it in place, and no risk of having to sacrifice the skin off my finger for the sake of the join.)
I'll post pics of my unfinished models when I get around to taking some pics of them.
Can anyone give tips on painting small detail stuff?
I use the Testors' paint and little paint brushes but it looks like crap to me....
I'm working on an A-10 right now...still have a bit to go. My first model
