This mainly deals with BF2. I'm really frustrated with my performance in BF2. I have a P4 2.6, X1600 PRO 512MB, X-FI XtremeMusic, and 1GB of RAM. Similar setup to this rig, except that his processor is better than mine- http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.h … E0MiwyLCww. I can only play BF2 on low settings, which is a far cry away from these benchmarks- http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.h … E0Miw0LCww. The only thing I could think of is a sound problem, as I cannot notice a difference between software low quality sound and X-FI "very high" quality sound. At my friends house there is a huge difference between the 2. I have tries re-installing drivers, BF2 twice, and cannot get any better results. In all other games I get performance right inline with my specs. Please, any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Also, i have read all the performance guides. Its really weird that the sound quality doesnt change when i change it from xfi very high to low, and the graphics barely change when i put them on high, i see the saw quality trees i see when i have the settings on low. really stumping me.

im not much of a PC tech guy but im feeling you man. I get very pissed off with the BF2 engine because i got my PC about 2 years ago so i can only run on low/medium (getting new one soon) but the source engine (used in games like Counter Strike Source and Day of Defeat Source) i can run everything on high except for HDR lol.

PS- when i moves my BF2 folder to the desktop, it lost all of my settings and accounts and everything, but the graphics became amazing. on my med settings it looked like med is supposed to look i guess, but w/o changing the settings all of a sudden it when back to looking worse and getting less fps. so crazy.

That processor can be a big bottleneck, and another gig of ram for bf1 is almost a must!

I know i know, but my setup is very similar to the benchmark and i can only run on low settings and they run everything on high

I went through months of torture when my comp (3.6 p4, gig of RAM and 1900xt) could barely play on medium. Mine was to do with the CPU and the temps getting too high. One day i cleaned my heatsink of all dust and wahla! 20 degrees cooler and play on high no problem.

1. Check your ram - http://www.memtest86.com/
2. Check your video card - http://www.futuremark.com/
3. Make sure you have all the latest drivers for your mainboard, video card, and sound card (if not on mainboard).

GET 2 GIGS OF RAM!!!!!

thats it

CPU will be bottlenecking a fair bit in that setup, if your FPS is consatntly low then a CPU upgrade would likly fix it to a degree, if its stuttering from time to time then it'll be caching textures and shit to the hard drive so more RAM would help with that, also an x1600 isnt really a great card for gaming anyway.

ROFL - "an X1600 isn't really a great card for gaming" - I have an x800 and I can run bf2 with everything on high.

QTF, my pc went from only getting low BF2 settings but i can run all high & 2gig ram is just handy anyway.

the x800 outperforms an x1600 by miles... bigger number != better card...

Yeah, I know, "bigger number != better card" - but I thought the x1600 was better than an x800... I shall have reacquaint myself with some comparisons...

<*takes a wander over to Tom's Hardware*>...

Ah, yes... I see... hmm... the x1600's shite...

I dont think any of you understand, in the benchmarks he was playing on 1024x768 w/ everything high, i have same video card, same ram, and a slightly slower CPU but can only run on low.

Well their test rig is a fair bit different to yours, your CPU is quite a bit older for a start but, that aside I can't see you getting anywhere near those numbers with an x1600, going by what other people have said on here in the past the most it manages is about 30FPS on low-med with no AA or AF, and to back it up heres another benchmark.

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_ … ;chart=276

I know it's benching 2142 not BF2 there but the engine isn't much different (if at all), 2142 is slightly harder to run but not a lot, so it gives you an idea of the performance of your card, ~15FPS is about right all on high @1024x768.
