Ey guys iv had half life 2 and css for well over a year now

wen i first got the game i played both for about a 4 - 5 month period

then i got this wierd unheard of problem

i would go into steam as you would and press LAUNCH GAME  the little box would appear *PREPARING TO LAUNCH HL2 (or css)*

then the box dissapears and the game loads up right? .. WRONG the box dissapears and that is it :S no error.. no game..  NOTHING.. iv tried backuping my files varifying re installing  THE WHOL SHABANGABANG

but nothing worked back then. so i just uninstalled both and called it quits

a solid year down the track (present time) i noticed the game just sittin their collecting dust and wonderd if it would work so i installed and updated counter  strike source and WALLAH it worked after a few fun nights i enjoyed the game and then decided to update half life 2 so i could give that another go

it reached 100% and it worked fine that night i left went to bed a happy kid .. in the morning i found that the same problem had returned ... i dont know what caused this i did not go on any non secure sites or download pr0n

WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING AND MORE IMPORTENTLY HOW CAN I FIX IT

Download "Source SDK Base" in the Tools section.
After it's fully downloaded, restart steam.
(if you have it installed already, then read the orange text)
That fixed some things for me back in the day.

If it doesn't work still, then send an email to Steam.

not sure... try updating HL2 and CS (if there's even a manual way to do it I've forgotten since it does it auto)

if you have xp try 2000 compatibility mode (fixes some things for me usually)

otherwise I'm stumped, don't bother with the Steam help forums, takes 5 days to register and your post for help will be overwhelmed with other posts and/or they'll give you no help.

Yes...they couldn't be stuffed helping me with my driver problems.  Don't bother e-mailing.  My GeForce 7600GS isn't that old anyway.

Try deleting ClientRegistry.blob from your Steam install folder.
