So does anyone know (or if not, what do you think) how the booster packs will affect servers?  Will a server have to be a "Euro Force" Server like we have SF Servers?  If not, how will they handle people without the booster, just boot them off when an EF map starts?  Will your server just be flagged while running regular BF2, that EF is needed to join?

It seems like if servers have to be devoted to each mod, we will be seeing very few servers for some of the mods.  People aren't going to want to update their server every month or two.

Any thoughts?

The best way to do this would be to make the version dependent on the booster packs.  That is to say, if your server is running version 1.2 or greater, you will require the booster packs of all the clients playing on that server.  Essentially, if you want to play the newest features of the game, you will have to pay for the booster packs.  Otherwise, you will need to find the server running the old versions of BF2.

I just don't see how dedicating a server to each booster pack would actually work.  I could see how that would make DICE more money, but I don't think that even their CEO would think they could get away with that type of business logic.  There are only 3 maps included with each booster pack.  You would essentially recquire one of the new maps to be another Karkand or Wake Island for people to play it so much.

I don't see servers dumping people who are currently connected who don't have the booster packs either.  That would cause such an interruption in game play that servers would never be full.  I look for servers right now by looking for 64 player slots and how full they are.  I'm guessing others do as well.  This would cause those servers running the booster maps to lose large populations and thus not be visible to me or others who search like I do because they will be way down on the list.

Obviously there is a difference between SF and the booster packs.  Heck, Special Forces has the "Expansion Pack" label right under the name while the other two have "Booster Pack" right under their names.  Booster pack to me means that it is one and the same with the current version.  Expansion pack means there are significant differences.

I'm thinking it would be part of the rotation of regular BF2? Like Wake '07 was for patch 1.12.

But I'm not sure what's going to happen to BF2 players without the boosters. Do they get kicked?

By now, you have all seen the list of fixes in the next update (1.2). We are still trying to nail down a few final items and put the final touches in place.

Here's a list of additional items to look for in version 1.2:
-UAVs are now visible in the world so if you are being scanned, you can know about it and take action against it.
-Rank progression is no longer limited to the enlisted ranks. All officer ranks are now available.
-Bug that allowed players in vehicles to contest a flag from outside the flag radius is now fixed.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to clarify some confusion stemming from our updates.

The first item is on the topic of grenades. Players will still be able to toss grenades while jumping. Although the ability to fire while jumping has been removed, players will still be able to initiate a grenade toss prior to jumping and follow through with the toss, thereby gaining themselves some extra distance. We understand that there will be some adjustment in tactics required when the patch comes out but we are confident that the community will quickly come to grips with the new tactics.

The second item is on the topic of the booster packs. We have not created the maps as a separate expansion pack requiring a separate server. The booster packs will increase the content of the base game and thereby may be run on a server in regular rotation with the original maps.
Wanted to post the whole thing, but make note of the server listings.. seems like the booster will work like the patch with Wake. If you don't have the booster, my guess is you will be booted from the server.

So you get booted if a EF map comes on? AWESOME
That means only the paying fools will get to play with their own kind.

So is the map free? Does everyone have a copy of the map? (Like wake 2007) or do you get kicked when a EF map is loaded in BF2?
