Wow, I used to watch them all the time when I was younger, just about every year (lived near El Toro USMC base, moved about the same time base closed, no didn't live on base).... it's a shame. When you lose one of these pilots, you lose one of, like Miller said, the best of the best. God be with his family/friends/fellow Blue Angel pilots.

Sigh.... imo, this is such an unfortunate waste of life. I'm gonna be blunt here and say that alot of Pilots are risking their lives for not much (just entertainment?) - but it's their life, if they want to do that they can. I suppose he died doing what he loved. I just feel it's an immense waste. Whilst i appreciate the art and skill needed, aerobatics (particularly Red Arrows) is pretty unnecessary, especially for the amount of effort required.

I know, it really is. The should have never closed it IMO. Up until Fall 05 I hadn't seen an jet since 1996. I was graced with a flyover for I can't remember what holiday at my college football stadium (U of Michigan's "Big House"). Can't remember what jet it was, but the next year (Fall 06) an F-18 flew over! Just hearing the sound of them flying close and passing overhead gets me excited! *sigh* I miss the "good ol' days" of El Toro airshows...Miller wrote:

Really? It was my understanding that they don't fly if the conditions are not perfect. There show is pretty low anyways. Exceeding 1 g only a few hundred feet off the ground. I have seen them nearly every year for the last 15 years (It's a family thing).Miller wrote:

This is really really sad and my thoughts are with the pilots and victims friends and families, such a tragedy to loose great men and women in a senseless disaster. But like it was said at least he was doing what he loved and I wish the same for me and anyone else. God's speed.

The last times I saw a jet was at the Angel's (baseball) championship series. They had an F-117 fly over. It was awesome... Other than that I can recall much, except when my father was able to take me on the USS Belleawood (sp?) on a special day the Navy was holding.
