My bro has recently developed the bf2 bug, but his gfx card a lowly 64mb geforce fx5200 just isn't up to cpoing with bf2's demands - he has a limited budget & we have narrowed down to possible cards, they are:

Any advice as too which would run bf2 the better would be much appreciated :-)

Add a few to nitros fps because hacks slow it down quite a bit.

If you haven't made the purchase, here's the paper comparison between the two:

X700 - 6 vertex pipelines, 1x8 pixel pipelines, 400MHz core, 128bit memory interface, SM2.0
6600 - 3 vertex pipelines, 1x8 pixel pipelines, 300MHz core, 128bit memory interface, SM3.0

I'd give my say on which one to recommend... but then again, either of them will do... I think...

Go with a 6600, for the Ultra High settings. Honestly I think the X700 would do too. I have a 256 MB X600 Pro and runnign on 6x AA on 1024x768 and half High-Med settings with no lag. Your choice. Both are great and won't be dissapointed.
