I got a free copy of Windows Vista with the PC I bought at the start of the year. I have just got it in the post this morning. Should I install it? If so/not, why?

if it were me id give at least three months, but im a lazy motherfucker that doesnt know shit about computers

If your PC is pretty high-end, then definitely. It's fun. If its more medium-range, then wait a bit, maybe. You will get worse performance (in games) in Vista.

I'm not gonna install it until I need too..

Right now, its just a pain in the ass with all the drivers, and worse performance in Games..

Well, if you bought it then I'd say yes, but since you didn't buy it, I'm going to say "yes, but eventually". Don't do it now, wait for the first service pack to come out.

Why not install it as a dual boot ..that way you get to play with the new OS and also have the comfort of still having XP for every day use....works for me!

XP pro setup on C:

Vista Ultimate running off E:

Just create a new partition and do a clean install on to that...

I have Vista and am using it at the minute! It's fantastic. Drivers? Most are already in a good BETA or fully released. You'll be upgrading some day so upgrade now! I made the move and you'll absolutely love it You won't regret it.

Running Vista on a medium PC, loving it.

The only thing that i miss is the Hardware profiles- Vista has so many services (around 60 ?) running in the background, and whilst i have disabled 20 or so that i never need, i still need 40 for every day use.

However, for gaming, i could cut it down to 10, but i have yet to find a way where i can stop certain services running for certain user accounts.

However, Vista is great, there was a lot of problems with drivers when it first came out, especialy from Nvidia, but most of these problems seem to be sorted now.

BTW... which version of vista did you get? If its Home Basic, there is no point in installing, it is shit

I tried to install vista on my machine athlon 64 3700+, 2gig ram, 1800XT 512mb (no this is no show off - and yes I know it sucks, just for information ) and vista itself (installation and minor work) went smooth but the performance in bf2 sucked quite a lot. i tried to follow some advices given here but it didnt really improve. same settings on xp everything is fine. so i decided to reinstall xp and wait for either a new computer or some major improvements to the performance.

If you want Mr. Gates to be able to log every thing you do on your computer just install Vista, he still haven`t said what he`s going to use it for but he has got the oppurtunity to do whatever he want`s with it seing as you agreed to the licence before the install

Also if you watch Divx films on your PC like i sometimes do.. The quality is reduced soo much..

Also Fraps runs shit too when trying to record in bf2
