evga 7800gtx

asus a8n sli premium
wd 74gb 10k rpm HDD

I have decided that I am going to upgrade my rig, and I need some help figuring out what I should upgrade.  Any suggestions?

HD space for sure, maybe a second 7800 if the benefit of two 7800s is better than a replacement 8800.

Well, I'm waiting for the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT, new AMD graphics...

1) A video card upgrade.
2) If you have run off space the increasing the drive space does not matter. Perhaps raid 0/stripe your primary running set of drives.
3) What about your sound? If you use a headset then it does not matter. If you use the on board sound, consider an x-fi of some sort.

I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS, with 5.1 logitech X-530 speakers.

and getting another HDD setup for raid sounds interesting too...

Second matching HDD for RAID for sure.

Not a bad rig, awkward to upgrade though. You could get a better GPU too, but I'd try to plan your upgrading very carefully 'cos at some point in the not too distant future you'll probably need to rip out that mobo, CPU and RAM - pricey. Certainly don't upgrade your CPU or RAM, it doesn't seem worth it.

I just had an idea.  Would it be a good idea if I waited a couple months and then got an intel core 2 along with the new mobo/ram?

EDIT:  bertster7, you beat me to it, thats exactly what I was thinking.  thanks for the advice

If you can wait for that, that is probably the best thing.

Either way you will be able to use the drives in any rig.

Thanks for all the help guys.  One more question.  I have a Rosewill 19" R912E LCD monitor, but they seem to have discontinued it.  I was planning on getting a second 19" monitor, so any suggestions?

lol.

You could upgrade other components that will still be usefull with a different mobo/CPU. Another Raptor might be an idea. Runnina single Raptor seems wastefull to me, because you can get mostly better performance from 2 slower drives in RAID than a single Raptor and for cheaper. 2 Raptors though, that's all good...

Do you have any other storage drives on there? How can you get by with so little space?

Maybe he has an on-line storage unit for the pr0n.

Nope. 1x8800GTX is faster than 2x7950GTX

Hes got a point, take that 8600, some dx9 cards do beat it, but on a dx10 game its gonna be a different story

Hence... I compared the 8800GTX and not the 8600. And the 8800 can easily run over the 7950GX2. Even though the later has more memory, i.e. 1GB vs 768mb, as memory is not everything in this respect.

Basically a comparison  is possible!
