Ok, the US has a homicide RATE of 5.5 per 100,000 and according to the FBI 14% were done using a knife giving the US a knifing homicide rate of 0.77 per 100,000

The UK in 2005/6 had 748 murders divided by a population of approximately 60 million gives 1.25 per 100,000 people. the percentage of murders committed with a knife was 34.2% (256/748) this gives a knifing homicide rate for the UK of 0.43 per 100,000 people.

The US has a larger rate of knifings than the UK does, almost double. So I guess we don't have much of a knifing problem, relatively speaking.
Nope, I guess you are all angels over in the UK. Ironic though, this coming from a country that actually sells tickets to their historic torture chambers and dungeons. Tell me, is their actually a building in England where someone WASN'T murdered, tortured, drawn and quartered, beheaded, or locked away forever?
Just cause we have history, no need to be envious. Give it a few centuries and there'll be a visitors centre in Gitmo where you can buy a pencil with a picture of a terrorist on the side.

Also it's the Americans who buy the tickets to come see these places.
yes yes!!...Come one, come all, to see the mysterious room where 300 years ago the American evil empire torture a human being by making him wear underwear on his head and refuse to tell him which way is East!! Ohhhhh the humanity!!!

tickets on sale now, 50 bucks per child, 100 bucks per adult.

I'm not sure what your point is?  Is it because england has a blood thirsty history we should get guns in case someone tries to behead us?

go back and read and follow the posts and you will see.

England has an incredibly violent past as you call it "blood thirsty" . My point is, lets not forget that as you all spout off as to how violent the US is to live and how you are taking your life into your own hands by coming here.

I never said you should get guns, I don't care if your country outlaws pantyhose for fear of getting a run in them.

I like my guns I like to shoot them and I like my RIGHT to protect myself and my family if need be. period.

dont try and start that argument... they will try to claim that hand guns are infact designed to be shot at targets in a range.... lol
At most target ranges you will find the targets are profiles of a ..... wait for it...... human torso.
And just to point out, I said most, I know some use those bullseye targets, about the size of the vital organs inside a torso.

Seem topical again. But there have been three gun murders in London within a five-mile radius of each other.

All the victims have been under 18. And the whole country is up in flames about it!!!

Though it does seem gun crime is limited (dare I say it) to "black" areas.
This has never been in black english culture ever, ever, ever.....

It's almost they are copying american "Gangstaaaaar" life and pretend they are living in "Ghettos". One interviewed kid said "It's like kill or be killed with a gun" Really???? Since when?? Or maybe it's all thses illegal immigrants from places in Africa where the price of life is cheap.

I just don't get it.

As long as the owner has a spotless record, is over 21, has a license, done a gun safety and training course, then why the hell not, self defense is becoming more and more of an issue in the UK with all the BS lately, not to mention the Chav culture taking a heavy turn toward violence.

Besides its not like not having a license stops people having one here anyways

Sorry but adding legal guns to an already well functioning society is a shit idea. It doesnt work and will only lead to higher homicide rates.

Maybe they could use a toothbrush instead? Or maybe you could take all the rocks away from little kids.

If a murderer had a gun he could potentially kill how many? If a murderer had a rock he could potentially kill how many? That is the argument.

Guns are for cowards. Whatever happened to having a good old fashioned hand to hand fight?

Just looking at the Cho idiot on his video, he wouldn't last 10 seconds in a real fight. It's too fuckin easy to pull a trigger.

How about, if a law abiding citizen had a gun, how many murders could he prevent by rock toting murderers?

Not that easy, sorry.

American culture has a whole gun fascination thing and it always has since the wild west and that's fine but the UK has never had that and currently it is struggling in the fight against crime to clamp down on violent crime using firearms. To allow guns to be as easily available in the UK as they are in the US would be disastrous IMO.

In my own country (Ireland) it used to be only farmers who had guns, now the City crime gangs are tooled up big time and it's quite scary. There have been incidents in Limerick involving Kalashnikovs! I pray that we can keep guns from becoming too widely available here ...legally or illegally.

I don't have a problem with this, it is whatever works best for you. Here in America, we like the notion of self defense.

Even before handguns were outlawed the UK only had around 0.1% gun ownership. We like the notion of people not being shot and killed.
