I know its sad... i just saw it and now im eliminating that off my college choice for next year
I would like to address a couple of points I've read on this thread, first any person with basic knowledge of the workings of an automatic handgun can quickly and accurately acquire targets with a 9mm pistol, the recoil is minimal, and the range he would have been shooting at was minimal. The same can be said about the .22 only more so, nearly no recoil at all. 5 Minuit's on a range or shooting at cans will get you the feel for target acquisition.
So I don't think we should assume that this was a military style trained individual, nor were the boys at columbine, or the boy at Churchill high in Oregon. This was the work of a frustrated, insanely angry person who felt this was his only way to strike back at an organisation he felt had wronged him. I feel sick and disgusted thinking about the families involved, my sorrow and prayers go out to them. I feel sorrow for the family of the shooter as well, may god bless them all and help them through this horrible time.

i have a right to defend myself....whether the world sees fit or not.
im so tired of this ban guns bullshit......look at england. they banned guns, now they are having a problem with knives.....ban the knives, youll have problems with people carrying sticks.
we have something in america that i like to call "The Daniel Boone Syndrome".
its one of the main problems with gun ownership in this country. most males seem to think that since they were born in america they can operate any firearm proficiently....that is not the case, and in fact leads to many of the accidents that give good owners a bad name.
You have a right to life, without a doubt.
You are right, outlawing gun ownership will not solve the problem. Just like requiring licenses does not solve the problem. People, if they are batshit crazy enough about something, will find a way.
A realistic, logical approach would involve all parties - gun owners, gun dealers, and gun manufacturers.
Require an incredible amount of oversight and regulation (uh oh, I said the 'R' word!) to all 3, and there will be less gun related violence.
The problem is of course, the NRA. One of the largest lobbying groups in the United States (AIPAC and NRA are always battling for that top position), the NRA consistently blocks legislation (both realistic and inane) relating to gun ownership, regulation, and manufacturing. They (members of the NRA who live in La-La land) are the loud, outspoken MINORITY of people who think that any type of legislation relating to firearms is bad legislation. Instead, they stick their fingers in their ears and shout retarded sentences like, "From my cold dead hands".
The unscrupulous and criminal make all gun owners/users look bad. At the same time, there will always be insane, diabolical people in this world. We can't look at an extreme case and use that as our norm.
RIP. I hope the victims friends, family and faculty get through this.
This sort of thing happens everywhere, not just the US. The US cops greater flak because of wide global knowledge of its gun laws and whilst they've no doubt contributed, I can't help but feel their contribution is overstated.

A minor correction. It was Thurston High, not Churchill High.bonedoc69 wrote:

I absolutely fucking hate the news. These motherfucking corporate news channels are only concerned about starting trouble. I just finished watching a couple phone interviews and could not believe what these motherfuckers were spitting out. The type of questions asked were purely to start trouble and controversy. On a couple different of these interviews I heard: "Are you angry at the police department for taking so long to take care of the situation? Isn't two hours too long for the campus to send out a campuswide email?" There were a few other unnecessary questions that were asked that I am too pissed off to remember at the moment. On many occasions, these interviewee's were asked questions they flat out disagreed with, such as the one stated above. One such response: "No, I feel the college and the police did an excellent job taking care of the situation." And it's true, you need to assess what the fuck is going on before you send a campuswide email. It does absolutely NO good to scare people if it is unnecessary; you will only create 'the boy who cried wolf' situation for the future.
I suppose my point here is, news channels are fucking useless and all these anchors can fucking go die. They do not give a flying fuck about anything they cover, it's all too obvious. They continually asked the type of questions to steer the interviewee's to their (newspeople) answer, to make more news and controversy, but were shot down repeatedly. I am sincerely glad to see that they ate their own words on multiple occasions.

Asshole. Now hes blaming liberals for campus shootings. Did you even read the story? The shooter murdered people 2 hours before the classroom assault. Now...... after 9/11, arent we supposed to be paying attention to these things? Especially when the same guy sent bomb threats to the school the week before to test its security measures?
The sole purpose of a sword is not to kill people as well? You can play around with words as much as you want, but firearms are ARMS, no matter how you try to explain it. Unless you are arguing that the main purpose of a weapon is not for killing in one way or another... can firearms be used in ways that arent violent? Yeah, but so can a sword, or a bow and arrow. Doesnt mean its not what it is. A device designed for killing.Stingray24 wrote:

The latest;
Authorities were investigating whether the gunman who killed 32 people on the Virginia Tech campus in the deadliest shooting rampage in U.S. history was a Chinese man who arrived in the United States last year on a student visa.
The 24-year-old man arrived in San Francisco on United Airlines on Aug. 7 on a visa issued in Shanghai, the source said. Investigators have not linked him to any terrorist groups, the source said.
Police believe three bomb threats on the campus last week may have been attempts by the man to test the campus’ security response, the source said.
The exits to the buildings where the shootings occurred were chained by the shooter, the source said.
Students complained that there were no public address announcements or other warnings on campus after the first burst of gunfire. They said the first word they received from the university was an e-mail more than two hours into the rampage — around the time the gunman struck again.
The real mistake we need to learn (learnt) is to not take shit from pussies who want to coddle our criminals. We need to treat criminals like criminals and make them pay for what they do, quickly and swiftly. Not treat them with kid gloves.PureFodder wrote:

If you are going to commit a crime here, you need to understand you are going to be miserable. You are going to hate life. You are going to pay for the crimes against your family, neighbors and your community. You may not make it out alive and its going to hurt if you break the law.
i would agree with that, but i have one issue.Spearhead wrote:

i am in the process of drawing up plans to make a mace. its for me, and it will add to my already large collection of period weapons that i own. i have all sorts of pieces from american indian tomahawks to feudal japanese swords. my point is that i will make this mace and i will hang it on the mount that i made and it will only be taken off the wall when cleaned or inspected. so this mace isnt being "designed for killing" as you have stated above.
on the other hand, i know plenty of gunsmiths that sell firearms that are not "designed for killing" either. my .22 ranch rifle isnt designed for killing. my 1911 that i carry everyday is a fucking life-taking machine if it needs, which i freely admit. there is a difference, you just need to look closely.
I'm not talking from experience, but I think (generally) people who commit crimes are already miserable.smtt686 wrote:

What is "you may not make it out alive and its going to hurt"? You want to torture criminals? Or pit them in some sort of barbaric Gladiator set up?
You can tell people that they will 'pay' for their crimes all you want. I think the bible does that too. The bible was written a long time ago, and people still commit crimes. Is it working? I don't think so.
Don't get me wrong, I think sociopathic killers should be killed. Dead. People like this are guilty of taking lives beyond a reasonable doubt.

Certain people who lose there stability or cant contain their reason just will never stop pulling off crap like this because noone sees it coming half the time and even then, its all politics or self preservation
Of course, if everyone who owned a weapon used it for killing or hurting other people, the world would be much less peaceful. When I say "designed for killing" I mean the people who invented it centuries ago had killing as the priority of the weapon they were making.Parker wrote:

I dont think firearms should be outlawed, I just hate it when people act as though a firearm isnt designed for killing, as though people walk around shooting things and when someone happens to be murdered "well, the gun is just a random object they used to murder someone". I agree with the belief that guns dont kill people, people kill people, but guns sure make it a helluva lot easier.

a buddy of mine just got one of their thompsons a couple months ago. anyway, they might know some place/person that would do it for you.
there are kits also. ive looked into them for a kentucky long rifle, flint lock, .68 if i remember correctly with that big ass octagon barrel. too much time needed for me though....and besides, my little ass gets tossed around by black powder lol.
let me know if you get one though, i want to see some pics.
edit: try this, they seem to have a rather large catalog.

This is the only type of post that I have cared about in this thread. It takes a special kind of person to take advantage of a massacre only hours after it happened. Today I'll worry about the families, tomorrow I'll talk politics.pers0nah wrote:

why does everyone write "i send my condolences to the families. my heart goes out to them" if u were involved in this, u actually think you would go rushing to bf2s to see what people think?

As caring people events like this sadden us. Everyone handles grief in their own way. Expressing concern is a way of dealing with our emotions.destruktion_6143 wrote:
