What I don't understand is why this sudden reversal in position? Maybe we should stop foreign aid to these guys now?
What are your thoughts?

Maybe they should make their old ones safe before they make new ones.

simple, they fell behind in technology.
putin is one of the hard liners from the old days, he remembers the cat and mouse games that were held under the atlantic.....im sure he also remembers SOSUS.
the last great sub they had was the kursk, and lets hope they learned their lesson about that-HYDROGEN PEROXIDE IS NOT A SUITABLE FUEL FOR TORPEDOES.
hes just trying to be a threat in the ocean again, thats all.

its not that the old subs werent safe, it was the torpedoes they were carrying. of course it didnt help that when the kursk did sink to the bottom of the ocean that the russians wouldnt accept help until it was too late.
live and learn i suppose, hopefully they wont make the same mistake twice.

The missiles, which have a range of 8,000 km (5,000 miles), have misfired in four out the five recent tests.
Hahaha. Maybe they should consider upgrades in their missile technologies before they jump the gun with these subs. Russians are so silly.

Putin is as hardline as they come, and he's out to prove the bear aint dead, it was just hybernating.
I just hope the world is ready now that the bear is making an appearance for summertime.
And I seriously hope he stops selling those damned RPG-29s with the thermo-goo filled warheads.  Them shits hurt.

Edit: This quote says it all... Lets hope he doesn't get too interested in trying to play games with the US that he forgets his country.

"Russia's attack submarines fulfil the function of preventing the United States's freedom of action at sea," said Ivan Safranchuk, head of the World Security Institute's Moscow office.

What i meant was the Russian navy are not providing adequate funds and procedures to deal with the retired and rusting nuclear submarines and ships.

The scary truth is that Russia was the first ones to invent ICBM and other weapons. Sure, we made the nuke first, but Russia made bigger nukes. Also, their assault rifles are far more better than ours in reliability and they made the first APC, the BMP. There will always be a chance that armored fury can become real.

You sure about that? the Halftrack was considered an APC.  And I'm pretty sure there are some others that entered service before the BMP, Granted they might not of been called an APC, But they were in fact "Armored Personnel Carriers"

Did anyone else notice they put the submarine at a "highly top secret submarine base in" whatever that town was?
