I have to rant too.....
Stats are no basis on judging someones skill,most of my deaths are from artillery,bombs,tanks or even teamkills,things you not always can avoid unless you are always vehicle-whoring(e.g. going to war on your teammates)
If you always take a jet or a chopper and flashbang or teamkill people during takeoff who try to fly too once in a while you'll definetely have decent stats,but that doesn't make you a skilled player,that's just jetwhoring to the max.
Those people should be reported to EA and their stats should be erased due to unfair methods of getting the jet.
Hitting the enter-vehicle-button next to the jetspawnpoint is the only fair thing to do,sometimes you get the jet,sometimes not,and I won't complain if I don't get it from time to time.
But getting flashed or even tk'ed during takeoff so they can fly all the time and later on insult people by saying their stats suck - that's just low and shows that these people are in need of some therapy.
And when I hear those people who say Blazin is a "revive-whore" - ridiculous,some top players just work for their points instead of whoring with an über-powerful vehicle.
Being a medic is the most honorable task to perform in a match,you keep the tickets from sinking and you risk getting killed reviving people who you should have left to rot anyway...
If I would really care about my stats I wouldn't run up to people and heal or even revive them,I would be assaulter all the time,noobtube at the ready and do all the despicable things these assholes do.
But I don't.
And that is what makes me a better person.

If this is your version of "reality" (as you put it), then you've got a warped view of reality. My SPM says nothing about me as a human being or anything about what I do outside of BF2. You seem to prefer to be dismissal of anyone who has "inferior" stats in your opinion and that's fine. If you choose to be closed-minded in that nature, that's your loss. I don't play this game to impress you (thank God), I play it because it's fun and I like to do it.
You should try a little humility every once in a while. It's actually quite liberating.
I totally understand what you're saying. There is a certain percentage of people on this forum that believe that if you don't have at least a 1.0 K/D and a 2.0 SPM then you don't know what you're talking about and couldn't possibly have anything to offer the community. I think that's patently false. The saying goes that you learn more from losing than you do from winning. I've died a helluva lot of times, many times in unique and creative ways (LOL). Seraphim: If the post has something to do with ingame related skills, yes, Stats do matter. Would you rather listen to my sub 0.5 ratios on the ground than Greenie who has 1+ in everything? I.e. Topics like: Running a squad on the ground, capping a flag: best ways to cover your squad, Supporting etc. etc. Stats DO matter, because your stats clearly show how good you are at it.
But when its about topics like whines, baseraping, etc etc, NO ONE has a right to say your stats suck STFU. Because they have NOTHING to do with the topic on hand.
