i work for the railways, and at the end of the shift when the train had terminated, i walked thru the train, to discover a bag had been left on one of the over head racks, what with all the security risks these days i carefully looked in side to discover that it was just full of shoes, make up and a DVD case, so i pulled the bag down and it started to rattle, i looked back inside the bag, and took out the DVD case only to discover that it had almost £600 inside.... now i am not the richest man in the world, nor do i earn the best wage in the world. so basically what i am saying is that i got the most enormous urge to take the cash and leave the bag were it was. the feeling was horrible, things going thru my head like WHAT IF THIS IS A SET UP! HOW WOULD I FEEL IF I LOST MY CASH! and so on..

Anyways i handed the bag and all its contents in the to lost property, but for a short while i wanted that cash really bad, but what i will say is that i got a great feeling from handing the bag in, knowing that someone will once again have there faith in the human race again...

what would you have done?

Thanks, but the urge to take the cash was bloody horrible, i felt really bad for even thinking about taking the cash, but the feeling i got for handing it in was ten fold

If you don't take the cash someone else will do it, so I would have taken the cash.

The "lost and found" people may not be so kind and pocket it themselves. really ruining the owner's day.

I too would feel bad taking it, and wouldn't.  I would probably though, take it, leaving a note saying you have thier money, and leave contact information.  That way, there is no worries that they won't get screwed by anybody.

But, it's good to read that there are some decent people still out there!

If its money just lying in the street You might as well take it as its nearly impossible to find the owner, but if its in a bag, wallet or purse its best to hand it in.

You did the right thing, best not risk you job or that £600 would have looked like pocket change.

I once worked for the railways here in Australia, had the exact same thing happen, walkin through a terminated train in a siding, except there was not cash, but a bag of nice newly bought products...i handed it in.....High five to all railworkers!

I have a conscience that would never have let me get away with keeping the money. Plus, it disgusts me when people do things like keep the money or take the product or whatnot. I always ask myself what you did: How would I feel if it happened to me?

the lost and found department would not be able to take the cash, as i have to go thru a procedure of filing a load of shit in, and 3 ppl get copies, so there is no way they could

What I would really like to say is take the money, since that is the only way people learn from their mistakes.

But I would have turned it in.

i hate REPEAT HATE!!!  people who find wallets remove the cash and insist on taking the other stuff that means nothing to them but has big value to the original owner of the wallet specially when they just throw it in the ocean

im talkin bank cards , membership cards , baby photos ETC

heres the deal take the money if you need to you might realy need it that i can see the actual point in there is a reason to    BUT dont go out of your own way to make this person feel even worse they allready lost their cash and have to deal with tryin to make ends meet for a while dont destroy the one thing you cant get with all the money in the world

i wouldn't have taken the money, simply because it belongs to someone else. And i don't believe in stealing from pepole
