Ok, I used to not mind the cops but now I hate them, here’s why:
A couple weeks ago my college had spring break and instead of going home I stayed with a friend of mine and slept on the couch. He lives in a vertical duplex and the people below him had a domestic dispute the week before which drew the attention of the cops. While the cops were there they saw a bunch of stolen street signs which was enough for a warrant and their return, they came back the weekend I was there. I was sleeping on the couch when I heard “PULLMAN POLICE, OPEN UP!” (Pullman, Washington is where I live). Saying this is nothing new and is almost always considered a joke because when you’re underage and drinking people like to mess with you. I thought nothing of it but when I heard it again a few feet from my head I decided to wake up and look. I pulled my head up and was instantly staring down the barrel of a gun. Let me remind you that it was Spring Break and I am in college so I was waking up at about noon and I was hung-over. The cop told me to turn around and put my hands up which I obliged and he proceeded to put handcuffs on me and sit me on the couch while the other 3 cops found my friend and his roommate (again, pointing weapons at them) and put handcuffs on them. They told us why they were in our part of the house and here is what they said, “We’ve detained you because the people that live below you stole some street signs and we’ve got a warrant to pick them up and since you share the same household we’ve come to search your place as well.”
Yes, that’s correct, they pointed their guns at us and illegally searched our house (although it’s the same building we share a different address which voids the use of the warrant in our place) BECAUSE THE PEOPLE BELOW US WERE STEALING SIGNS!
I don’t understand why guns if we were just college students who were all asleep and weren’t actually guilty of anything let alone living above some mischief makers.
After the whole ordeal it turns out the people below had a bunch of alcohol (nobody being over 21), and a bunch of marijuana and paraphernalia so they were screwed.
So here’s my question: What can I legally do to a cop (in the US of course) without being arrested/fine/etc. I am thinking along the line of giving them the finger and stuff like that.
