The United States devotes a far higher share of its economy to health care than any other country. Yet, according to the most recent World Health Organization study, the United States ranks just 37th in overall health care performance. How do you define "sub par"? The only way you can arrive at such a conclusion is if you substitute some kind of ideological criteria for a practical one. Practically all empirical studies have shown that the US has a very sub-optimal system compared to other similar countries, yet this "best health care in the world" mantra still remains. It's the most expensive, I'll give you that, but Americans get far less for their output than most other industrialized nations.

There are legitimate educational reasons for giving out mp3 players.  My wife teaches basic skills and is always making tapes for students to take home.  But the trouble is that some don't have tape players, so you might end up doing cd's too.  For the price of a few audio casettes you could easily get students dirt cheap 64meg mp3 players (probably less that $5 if bought in enough quantity), so in fact you would probably save money.  I suppose buying kids paper and pens is a waste of money too?

*shrugs*  Perhaps privatizing education is the answer here?...  I don't know.  I don't see it in terms of one party or another.  I just want people to stop arguing over petty shit and just educate our kids.  If that means changing the system into a completely private one, then so be it.  That way, I don't have to hear about some politically correct group bitching about the racial bias of a testing method or some religious group bitching about Harry Potter being played in a class because it promotes "witchcraft."

Education is much easier to manage in Canada and most European nations because their people don't argue so much over stupid shit.  Diversity seems to mostly be a curse here....

The real frustration in arguing is the lack of acknowledging when history proves them Wrong.

They say "only massive infusions of funds " will fix the Corrupt missmanaged debacles that their pet projects they hold power and sway over ( like  Public housing, welfare, school lunches, Parol for violent felons, the NYC Public school system ) have become.

It always takes us years of wasted money and lives to recover from their good intentioned, taxpayer funded, experiments that failed.

Their Mascot and pet " Communism " has been greatly assisted through their efforts.

The USSR was up to a lot of really evil shit. They kept thousands of US soldiers captive from POW camps they liberated during WWII and never returned them. They were Responsible for the Deaths of more Jews than Hitler. They destroyed the lives of their own citizens for Generations. Usually in the US materials are not provided for students. Most public schools even charge book fees.

We do not have to pay for books here in public schools. It may vary by county but I have lived in many different places throughout the US (Dad was military) and we never paid for a public school text book or any fees. We do have to buy our own supplies though.
