I thought it was a great story so I posted it here. Its pretty amazing.

Kevin Garrad (3rd Infantry Division) was on a street patrol in Iraq (Tikrit I believe) and as he rounded the corner of a building an armed (AK-47) insurgent came from the other side.

The two of them were within just a few feet of each other when they opened fire. The insurgent was killed and Kevin was hit in the left chest where his IPod was in his jacket pocket. It slowed the bullet down enough that it did not completely penetrate his body armor. Fortunately, Kevin suffered no wound.

Look at the HP branding on the back. That's not covered by Apple's warranty, but I heard that Apple is going to give him a free iPod.

EDIT: He's also lucky it's a 4th gen. 4th gen contained the hard discs, which probably helped slow the bullet.

I don't know how many times I've dropped mine.

You can like slam it against the wall and it still plays music.

BTW, this wouldn't have mattered if they supplied their troops with actual Body Armour, none of this cheap stuff they are using.

we don't know if he was actually listening to the ipod and not paying as attention, or overworked, or just unlucky... I'm just wondering out loud if maybe the ipod put him in more risk in the first place...
