You can't upgrade much for $600. You can get a newer video card maybe, or a new processor, but thats about it. Maybe some more RAM, but you can't get much with $600.

dont push shitty hardware forward: do it all at once, or you won't be better off.

Well, to make do with what you got, give us a bit more info, as much as you can. For example, what type of ram ddr or ddr2, all the specs you can gather about your motherboard, etc.

Four cores instead of one (single core) or 2 (dual-core).

I wouldn't worry about going quad core quite yet.  I would bet your mobo wouldn't support it because your computer seems old (not in a bad way, but it isn't new enough to be capable of supporting quad core).  Quad Core is exactly what it says, a processor with 4 cores.  Basically, its 4 times the power of your processor, but I think it's like 1000 USD just for the processor chip.

Like Sarge said, you're much better off saving up and going for a whole new computer.  Your parts are outdated and odds are that no amount of upgrading is going to give you amazing improvements.  If you are unable to wait and you feel you must upgrade now, go for more RAM (2 gigs would be sufficient) and a better graphics card, but I'd have to know whether your mobo supports AGP or PCI-E.  I'm gonna assume you have AGP by the size of your HD and current processor, so I'd recommend the GeForce 7300GT for $100 if you do in fact have an AGP slot.

what the f*ck about quadcore future stuff? Have you read the first post? This guy wants to upgrade some parts with limited budged! If you find a quadcore, motherboard, ram and GPU for 500€ gimme a link, I´ll buy em all!

if you dont have too much money to spend but want to increase your systems performance I suggest:

get another pair of 1024 MB, for better loading times etc.

and get a ATI Radeon X1950Pro 512MB AGP8x (~200€] or an NVIDIA Geforce 7800GS 512MB AGP8x (~200-300€) to boost your settings

Lmao agreed ^^^^, man says $600 or maybe $900 at a push and those dam quads cost $900 ALONE!

Once again I am incline to agree with Sl4y3r, first of all I would upgrade the RAM, find out what speed you RAM is at the moment, and match it with another one gig stick or two 512s (needs to be the same speed for it to work properly).

Then I would say the graphics card, for AGP its gota be the X1950 pro (again as Sl4y3r says).

When it comes to CPU, I dont know much of the compatibility of P4s and other Intel chips, but I doubt its worth it on an old AGP motherboard.

I assume you dont have a space issue on ur HD, but even so another harddrive are so cheap these days.

So that is about $230 for the graphics card, and maybe $100 for the RAM as I dont think it will be hurendously expensive stuff u need to buy.  Lets say $400 to be safe.  Wouldnt bother with anything else really, gets to the point upgrading an existing system is not worth it and if it was me I would save for a whole new rig really, but then I know the iritation from a machine that strugles on all low.........

Those upgrades should do u a world of good mate, and u will only hav urself to blame for sucking at games

Doubling your memory and getting a newer video card ala x1950 pro or a 7900gt  or something to that effect will give you the best bang for buck.  and you should be able to do that for  around your budget.
If you download cpu-z it wll you what type of memory you currently have(SDRAM, DDR or DDR2),  as well as what type of graphics interface you are using (PCI-Express or AGP)on the mainboard tab.

Hop that helps

New video card, another gig of RAM and maybe a new sound card, like an X-Fi.

Step 1: Find Sales Papers
Step 2: Find Best Buy, Comp USA, Circuit City, Office Depot or Office Max sale papers
Step 3: Search for a computer on sale & buy a $150 Nvidia 8 Series when they ship around April 17th.

That is all.

girls, I dont get it! Why are you suggesting Nvidia 8*** series, if this guy has an AGP8x interface?
