I'd rather preserve the status quo with regard to smoking tobacco and "pot" (). Yet I don't realize why people need drugs to feel better. There are plenty of other ways to trigger chemical responses. I wonder how any smoking began, "I'm going to grow this plant, process it, roll it up, start it on fire, and inhale the fumes."

Its a drug, its addictive, it ruins lives, its only a government money spinner, its effectively aiding in voluntary suicide ( as in people know the risks yet will try their luck). However, I am a non smoker and I will say the above things. And I also know its hard for people to give up, my parents all smoke and I constantly ask them to stop, but they say they enjoy it. How anyone can 'enjoy' filling their lungs with carbon monoxide, tar and many many more LETHAL toxins is beyond me.

Ban in public places is fine, people who choose to smoke should be allowed to. Yet I as a non smoker do not want my health damaged through no fault of my own, though I guess that can be hypocritcal when we are all out drinking 8-). Certainly at a restraunt and such

More likely the act of smoking involves breathing slowly and deeply which slows the heart rate while the tobacco fills a psychological craving.
