Id say welcome to the forums, but youve been browsing the forums before...so welcome to membership!

I think the American people like Australians enough, but the country as a whole doesn't have that much of a regard to them. I'm sure America appreciates Aussie support in Iraq, but they don't chose to acknowledge that contribution by anything other than a fairly crude fair trade agreement. I think the American psyche is set to the thought that any ally could turn against them at any moment, which is why Australia is not getting to share any of the American military technology.
However comparing the people with the people they seem to get along very well.
We get a bit of stuff off america - like used Abrams tanks, F22 Raptors (maybe) and we are 'partners' in the Joint Strike Fighter project.
I think Australia is sitting on a GOLDMINE with the Queensland based defence firm Metal Storm - they have developed some crazy stuff, and both Australia and the USA have interests in the company - although none of the equipment is in production...yet.

I read a book (I think it was a Matthew Reilly one) and one of the groups in it used Metal Storm assault rifles - is this the same comapny/thing? From what I can remember, they used some kind of liquid cooling and shrapnel bullets to fire a "metal storm" of bullets. (bit OT lol)

And to bob, Welcome!

G'day,
I have been reading this forum for a while and enjoy the fact that it doesn't seem to be ''over censored".
So now I have officially become a member.
I look forward to throwing my self absorbed opinions amoungst fellow forum members and receiving responses that my (half intelligible posts) deserve.

My first question is....
What do Americans think of Australians, if they think of Australians at all?

Looking forward to your response, this is an American forum, I hope.

OTB, c/o S/W Australia.
welcome Aussie, a lot of Aussies around here,

enjoy your stay and have fun.

Hey otway bob. You inspired me to join too. I, just like you have been trolling these forums for ages and never actually signed up.

Im also a fellow aussie. And I'm pretty sure Australia is buying 100 f-22's, or they were thinking about it. Anyway, welcome, and sorry for hijacking your thread.
Welcome to BF2s.

Funny you should mention the F-22 debate...

Earlier tonight at (air force cadets), a RAAF Group Captain came and visited our Squadron. Now if you don't know your RAAF, this guy is very senior. He mentioned the debate in the papers about the F-35 vs. F-22 vs. F-18 Super Hornet. Basically, the USA won't sell it's F22 to anyone because the technology is so advanced.

Australia is buying the F-35 (can't recall the numbers), but until that it ready, we are purchasing some F-18 super hornets.
