please, think before opening your mouth to an international community. we really don't need to fuel the stereotype.
Maybe you should peel back his sarcasm and look at the point ( I think) he is trying to make. Correct me if I am wrong but I took it as this:

It was war, our country was, and correctly so, thinking about  preserving American lives FIRST, before they concerned themselves with Japanese lives.

It is all conjecture, because it did not happen, but after Iwa Jima and Okinawa, it was determined an invasion of Japan would, in the end, cost more lives on both sides than the bombing took. Like it or not, it does not matter, that was the decision that had to be made and it was a correct one. America cared about its losses, we were, after all, not Russia or Japan.
You know something? I actually agree.

The world had been at war for SIX YEARS. SIX YEARS OF THE WORST WAR MANKIND HAS EVER SEEN. Tens of millions had already died. Peoples' brains were screwed, they just wanted it all to end ASAP - whatever that meant.
The paradox is only a conflict between reality and your feeling what reality ought to be.

this is an obscure piece of debate wrt someone thinking that history should be re-written. I am still waiting for him to turn up and continue where I left off.

it is amazing that there are people outside of Japan who feels the same way about this, given their exposure to a different worldview.

And we fail as a species. If we want to continue existing, we mustn't let our governments manipulate ourselves like this. We must know our past to make a different, hopefully better, future. I haven't heard of Germany altering history books on concentration camps, or of American books on the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

We have the right to make our own opinions about the past, including our own countries wrongdoings. Japan is completely WRONG to manipulate their population like that, specially the young who are still in school and don't know everything out WWII.

I remember reading a report of a medical research facilitity where they would do some grotesque things to prisoners, just to see the results. it said that some of the 'researchers' could go unpunished if they handed over their findings to american intelligence

a terrible thought, whether its true or not you cant really know.

This coming from a member of a group of people who in the same war were responsible for at least 30 million deaths between the Russians, Brits, Jews, and everyone else they beat the hell out of.  We know what we did, and we curse you and the Japanese for making us do it.  At least we don't hide it, we tell our children about it and show them both sides of the story.

To be honest I think you're just sore cause you lost the war and now we're bigger and better than you ever were.  Go suck on a Bratwurst and dream of the "good ol' days of the Reich", you Swastika loving Nazi.

It's Japan...  When they're not denying their libido through sexual repression, they're denying that their older generations did anything wrong during WW2.

It's not all bad though...  They do make great electronics, video games, cars, and porn.

You guys were harsh on that German kid. At least they (Germans) acknowledge the atrocities and the gayness that was the Nazi Reich. Unlike our Japanese Friends here...

This is like Europeans apologising for Slavery - this generation shouldn't have to worry about any of this. We weren't part of it, so why should we have to apologise. We should know about it though, damn right, it should definatley be known and not forgotten. But no apologies.

WTF is Japan doing... I am seriously disappointed in them. They have no honour. They should all go commit seppuku.

If you recognize it was an error, why not apologize? Too much pride?

To the victor go the greatest spoil. the ablility to write the history. Japan now changes it cause they our on our side of the fold, but then agian lots of things in our history our fluffed up. The thing that i have read that shames ALL american history students is the period from 1880s-1920s when we were imperalistic (cuba, guam, phillipines, somoa, hawaii, puerto rico, and much more)

Coventry.
Of course. Plenty of locations in history have been baptized by fire. The two listed here are twin cities.
Indeed. And actually, Coventry is a good example of where countries have done things in the past that may be morally questionable with hindsight. In this case it was what Churchill did to the citizens of Coventry by not warning the city that it was to be bombed for fear that it would alert the Germans to the fact that we'd cracked one of their codes.
Letting the Germans know their codes were "cracked" would have lengthened the war made the outcome questionable and caused an exponential increase in loss of life for everyone as well as people in Coventry. Good hard decision on his part, glad he was up to it, he would be a Reagan Conservative in todays world. The country who decided to drop the bombs is responsible for the bombing. Try not to think too abstractly on such a topic.

clinton rewrote history when he made them delete the scenes of him telling the CIA not to bag BinLaden in a movie about 911, Censorship is a one way street it seems.
