My friend just changed his dvd rom drive because its spoilt and it cant startup. It gave 6 beeps and theres nothing on the computer screen. His Mobo is a dell btw.
Few more details would be nice and a better explanation of what he's done:
Does the PC boot with the new drive removed?
Everything plugged in correctly? (right slots, etc)

Generally if you go to the motherboard website they will give you an explanation of what the beeps mean (because there are a bunch of combinations of them). So do that to find out what is wrong.

6 beeps will probably be... Keyboard, keyboard controler or Gate A20 error.
