Hello All. I have been playing BF2 for a while with a certain interner provider but am thinking about switching to HughesNet, which is a "satellite internet" provider. I was wondering if anyone of you have any input about this type of service. Also if you have this service please let me know how does it works out for you when playing BF2 and if its worth getting. Any help or info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I wouldnt think it would be any good for gaming but I could be wrong. Have you tried to see if you can get a faster connection from your ISP you have now? My ISP offers anywhere from 5mb to 15mb connections and it help me out when I went from 7mb to 10mb.

Thinking of the logically, it seems as if satellite internet would be a very well choice.

I think at the moment, it's too unreliable... As in, connections between clouds and other sources may temporarily block your connection more often than of broadband connection problems.

The latency on the satellite service can reach 900ms and you need to choose the upload method.
2-way satellite systems remain considerably more expensive or you can choose to upload using your phone line.

He's right...satellite internet should only be used for casual Internet use, such as browsing the web with a laptop.  Not for gaming.

The best thing about satalite is the download.....In the UK the only Sat Isp costs a fortune and upload speed is only dial up speeds its the download speeds that make it worthwhile... for gaming you need fast up and down

I have satellite internet.  You do not want it.  It is absofreakinglutely horrible for gaming.  I would happily give up one of my testicles to get cable or even dsl at my house.  I want to move, but my wife wont have it.

I get so frustrated sometimes that I will have to shut down my game and play a single player RTS like SupCom or CoH.  Do you hear me?  I will revert to playing RTS's - and in single player for hell's sake!

If you enjoy gaming at all, don't do it man.  Do not go with the satellite internet.  For your sake, and for your families sake.

btw, I don't have the best stats, but I am damn proud of my stats, simply because I got them with this shitty connection.

(Please forgive the link to this sorry excuse for a site.  It seem's I dont have much choice.)

Is a side note, I can honestly say I have never switched teams for a win.

No-one's considered the pings? My brother is on 1Mb 2-way with Optus (Aussie provider), and his pings are well over 2 seconds (that's 2000). Completely unviable for Online Gaming (hmm maybe WoW).

All things considered, ISDN is actually the better for gaming, even if it is only 128 (again, another person I know). Pings are pretty much ADSL but throughput sucks balls.

Satellite's good for browsing the web, bad for gaming. Takes too long to send a signal to the satellite in space and then for the satellite to beam it down to the earth.
