I declare we should eradicate all termites to eliminate their production of deadly methane gas that is destroying our atmosphere....

LOL... now that I have that out of the way...

There are so many people on this forum quoting this source and that, opinions in general seem to be:
Global warming = bad
or
Global warming = meh, I could care less

I direct this question to the former... what have you done to change the situation?  You sit here and you talk about it, but really what have YOU DONE?

You point your finger at the government and say they need to stop this or that, but most people crying about it have probably never done anything to change their own minute (pronounced my-noot) impact on the environment.

So come with your "higher than thou" attitude.  Enlighten us.  Tell me what you have done to make my environment a better place.  And I don't mean quote sources giving us advice, I can Google that all day.  I want you to tell us what you are doing.

Maybe you could spark an idea for someone else here on the forum.  The sword has been drawn...

As a sitter on the fence (if you search hard enough you'll find I've posted arguments for and against both sides of the debate) - I recycle, I don't drive, I use energy efficient lightbulbs and I switch the TV, my PC and other electrical equipment off (not onto standby)... just off the top of my head...

You should be very careful coming close to open fire then i guess.

I do all the obvious stuff and i use some of my time trying to convince others to do their part and why !

I recycle, I get all my electricity from renewable sources, at my house in France I have solar heated water, I have a highly insulated house and efficient modern condensation boiller, I drive a small car, when travelling abroad I try to travel by train rather than plane whenever possible, I use low energy light bulbs, I have played some part in reforrestation schemes around London (through no real initiative of my own though, so I can't take much credit for that), I try to buy food from local sources rather than foods that have been imported from a long way away, I pay offsetting companies to offset the additional carbon I produce and I have a couple of acres of rainforrest conserved.

4th Climate change thread this week. We could have just asked in one of the other warming topics.

Whew. If this isn't an "In your face" moment, I don't know what is.

Back on topic:
I ride the bus to school or carpool (cuz parking costs here are re-cock-ulous), turn off everything when i'm not using it, the usual. If I could afford a hybrid I'd probably have one just cuz I think the engineering and concepts are cool.

I don't have a car, I stick to walking/bus/train.

I don't leave things on when they're not in use, including switching things OFF not leaving them on standby.

I avoid heating the house too much, I'm happy to wear a jumper instead of cranking up the heating.

I'll try use things till they don't work, rather than replacing things when a better version comes out.

I considered putting it in another thread, but didn't want it to get lost, and didn't want to derail someone elses work.  In the end, I thought this one is different because it's not debating the politics/reality of GW, I just want to know what others are doing.

And like I said, someone could post something that may give someone else an idea and give them the umph to get off their butts to do something.

Basically I'm calling out all the people that quote things in the other threads.  I think the majority of them are sheep and take a side because that's what they read on the net or "that's what my daddy said over coffee this morning".  All talk and no action.

That's one I forgot in my list. I also wear clothes until they fall apart and don't just buy new ones to keep up with fashion/season.

The first step in addressing the issue of global warming is sorting out the facts. Both sides of the debate feel strongly about what they believe. You really can't get upset with your opposition considering there is a large amount of media that is telling us different things. I feel one way, but I understand why others could see the other. Not because I agree with the science behind it, but rather I see the cloud of confusion created by those with special interest (Both sides). Once you get everyone on board then you can seriously start talking about what we need to do (or not do). Recognizing the truth is the first step in moving from understanding to action. The most important thing at this point a believer can do is to have these debates. Getting a larger amount of people to conform to stricter energy policies will have a greater impact than what kind of lightbulbs you are using. Those people need to also be aware of how much their argument is hurt when they do hypocritical things. The immediate thought will be they do not have much faith in it as well since they have not altered their lifestyle. Hypocrisy has no place in science though.

Not as much as I'd like at the mo but once I'm finished in uni I should be able to afford to do more.

*I recycle but some thieving bastard has nabbed my recycling box to use as a storage container.  Need to ask the council for a new one

*Cautious with the central heating/switch off when not in use.  Programmed it to switch off over night

*Turn off tv/computer etc over night

*Walk almost everywhere.  In an average week I only have 1 car Journey

*Use energy saving bulbs.  Switch of lights in rooms not being used

Not the best but hopefully a good start.

I dry my own faeces and burn it as fuel, while maintaining a low-carbon diet to ensure a minimum of greenhouse gasses are emitted in the process. If there isn't much food lying around the house it comes in handy as a tasty brownie also.

If everyone did a little it would add up to allot.
Personally I
Recycle can, paper glass etc.
Recycle food waste for compost
Drive a fuel efficient car.
Live in a small house which needs little heating.
Building a new house atm, which is insulated well above the building regs. Have a condensation boiler and a water heating solar panel. A heat exchanger in the attic. Might put in a ground source heat system if I can afford it.
Don't fly much. Did all that in my globe trotting younger days.

Most of the above are drove through saving money in the long run.

I watched CSPAN last night and listened to a Republican from Illinois say that "The Earth has cycles.  We've been through four of these cycles.  There have always been humans on Earth and now we're saying humans caused global warming.  That makes no sense."  Well humans have not always been on Earth, and there are quite a few more humans on the Earth today than there were 100 years ago.  How do these guys get elected.  Must have gone to the GW Bush school of public speaking.

That republican is as smart as the guy who said math is useless in the other thread... Do these guys actually get elected?

I don't waste water, heating or electricity, i.e. turn off shit when im not using it.
At home we recycle all waste, at uni its just bottles unfortunately, should do cans and paper too really but my hall has no bins for them.
Walk to uni and everywhere in notts or take the bus, load my car with 5 people if im going shopping for food, not just going on my own.

What do I do? Well, for starters, I recycle cans. I get paid for that. I drive a fuel efficient car. I pay for less gas that way. I run the heat and ac as little as possible, so I pay less for natural gas and electricity. I use compact flourescent bulbs instead of incandesents, again so I pay less for electricity. Hmmmm. My electricity comes from a nuclear plant, because that's closest. I buy food from the grocery store. Normally whatever is the best deal. When I travel, I choose the mode of transportation that is the cheapest.

Are you detecting a theme here?

Give me an incentive to do things that are "better" for the environment, and I will. Until then, buzz off.

I drive faster so I spend less time running my car, cut down the trees around my house and burned them in my wood stove to warm the house instead of using electricity, wear dark colored clothes on hot days so the heat is not reflected back into the atmosphere, and I run my ice maker full bore regularly releasing the Ice cubes into the river so they can help cool the ocean currents.

Soon all will be well with the planut.  Go Hemp!
