Volkswagen..their Golf's took over the hatchback world
You say " car " company, but I assume you mean automotive manufacture.
My Dodge Dakota V6 truck has been bulletproof. 250k+ miles. I will absolutely buy another one.

Hmmm...I don't have a favourite car company. There are individual cars I like, but no favourite company.
If I had to pick one car to own, it'd be a Falcon coupe (XA, XB or XC), however.

Holden! The new range of Commodores are mind blowing. Holden is a part of GM, but the commodore range was designed, engineered and built in Australia.

Hondas would be my choice of the late 90s. So many choices of body styles and engine transplants for the 1st time car buyer! Its all about RWD and turbos these days now though.

Bmw
BMW imho! Compared to other brands like Audi or Mercedes, those cars have the best and most smooth running engines, with the best value of hp/litres. The quality of the cockpit, seats, interior etc is way higher than the one of a similar Mercedes. So, yeah, BMW.
Mazda/Toyota FTW!
"If you want a vision of the future, imagine SecuROM slapping your face with its dick -- forever." -George Orwell
Bmw, Porsche and Toyota is without a doubt the best cars in the world when it comes engineering quality, nothing beats them, and when i say nothing i mean the regular cars most people buy, there is of course the few individual models from other manufactorers but as a hole these three rule the world of quality cars.
Volkswagen - Is crap because of poor technical solutions that to often fails, electric components, drive train and so on ....
Mercedes - Was a quality car once but after they started massproduction on a huge scale they now rust to pieces like a cheap japanese car did 20 years ago and they are loosing customers in a rapid rate.
Kia & Hyundai & Suzuki - These cars are improving quality wise but they are filled with old technology and is like driving a 10 year old car when they are new !
Mazda & Honda - Good runners up !
Mitsubishi - Crap, its a reason why this company almost goes bankrupt once a year.
American cars - I dont have much experience with these except for the ones sold in Europe like Ford witch lacks good quality cars, the new Focus is by its test recently looking like a promising car for Ford in Europe !
And if you wonder, yes i work in the world of automobiles and have done so for 15 years and have the qualifications to make these statements

Volkswagen.
Ignore their history, car for the people, Hitler, etc. but focus on the present day. Look at the quality marques that come under the VW group banner:
Bugatti
Bentley
Lamborghini (okay, dodgy quality on them)
Audi
Skoda (again, ignore their history, they are reliable enough now to be the car of choice for private hire taxis)
and SEAT.
The names above speak for themselves, especially Bugatti and Bentley. Who wouldn't love to drive a Veyron at 240mph or ride in a Continental GT?
As for VW's own brand cars, the Phaeton - a 200mph luxury sedan, the iconic Beetle, the Golf R32 - hot hatch of choice, the Touraeg - Chelsea-tractor to rival the Range Rover and Cayenne.

French cars (renault/peugot) are ugly as hell, and Asian cars don't win it against German cars..

Another vote for BMW. They are reliable, comfortable, good performance, agile, good looking, still somewhat affordable. I don't really like the new BMWs though. Feels more like you are driving a computer that drives the car rather than directly driving the car. I really prefer my 330xi (last gen) over my parents 330cxi (this gen). Way better handling IMO (and it's not just me, if I went to my dad he would love to swap cars).
Merc I don't like. Everything looks and feels cheaper. Also the handling is not so great.
VW has major problems.
Asians: great Quality usually but I just don't like to drive them
US: not too much experience
EDIT: I left Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bugatti, ..... out because I am way too much of a scrooge to buy one of them

Why does everyone seem to think that a Mercedes is well engineered. Credit where credit is due they are top class designs and on paper should be an excellent drive as well as being aesthetically beautiful too. There is a slight failure on Mercedes part though:
THEY CAN'T BUILD THEM!
The damn things are in and out of the garage non-stop because they fall to pieces like they are made with sticky tape. The design side is top notch but they can't turn ideas into reality and realising this they charge you a fortune for replacement parts

I admit they are pretty nice, runner up to the BMWAudi

BMW 7 series or an S-class Merc? There is like nobody who bought that monsterAs for VW's own brand cars, the Phaeton - a 200mph luxury sedan
the old one were a complete failure engineering wise, the "new" ones are just crap, the iconic Beetle
yay, all phear the tuned Golf, the Golf R32
which effectively is a re branded Cayenne with a huge VW logo on it. If I drop that kind of cash I want a car by a quality manufacturer- hot hatch of choice, the Touraeg
very nice car but has its technical problems- Chelsea-tractor to rival the Range Rover
neither a real porsche or a off-road carand Cayenne

Porsche/BMW/Audi and Nissan as I love the Skyline!
I like European cars, and the best are Germans, no matter which company.
