how to make my city more sustainable??

How about eliminating the "free ride" of all govt. leeches and tics that infest our social programs?? Start by sending the aformentioned leeches and tics from New Orleans, back to New Orleans!

Every roof should be covered in solar panels. Couple that with some kind of huge battery round the back of your house, and you could considerably cut the power you need to pull from the grid.

On the conservation front, Australia is to ban the standard light bulb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_Bulb) in favour of fluorescent bulbs. "According to the Federal Government, up to 95 per cent of the energy each standard light bulb uses is wasted, while compact fluorescents use only 20 per cent as much electricity to produce the same amount of light."

I say nuke it because the place is too far gone already.

It's that, or you carpet-bomb the sink estates, send the police out to shoot chavs on sight, put the water-mills back in, stick solar panels on anything south-facing, scrap the buses, and scrape off the speed humps so people maintain a constant speed instead of braking every few yards.
Cutting down water usage is just stupid; it's all recycled anyway. In britain, every glass of water you drink has been through an average of 4 other people first.

But it's a different kind of light. Excessive fluorescents give me a headache.
