I had a similar issue of "artifacting" a little while ago and was able to fix it. This has been mentioned here:

This can be caused by a number of things such as Graphics Card and or PC heating up too much or faulty equipment.
but before you go out and buy some new hardware, firstly check that your pc is clear of dust bunnies and that your fans are working fine but also check the fix that worked for me :
* START-->Settings-->Control Panel
* D/click "Display" Icon... Goto the Troubleshoot TAB and on that page you will see:
Enable Write Combining
with a tick box next to it, and I think you will find that it is ticked.
Remove the tick, click OK. I'm not sure from memory, but I think you'll have to reboot and you should be fine.
Try the above first and let me know if it fixed your prob.
