the creator of scientology l. ron hubbard didn't believe in the crap he wrote. when he died, the medical report found high levels of the drug hydroxyzine in his blood which would have been in direct opposition with church of scientology practice and doctrines. oops, busted.usmarine2007 wrote:

I think you see what I am saying right?

No, because you're being a twit. Catholic church priests didn't write the bible. Further, not screwing kids isn't one of the prime tenets.usmarine2007 wrote:

Finally: The history of Scientology reeks of "hey, I know how we can make some cash".
Who did write the bible then?Bubbalo wrote:

Shut up usmarine. Just, shut up.

Don't like me questioning other religions?SargeV1.4 wrote:

If you have a point to make then make it. you know damn well what you just spent the last page doing and why I told you to shut up.

I am trying to understand why people think these guys are nuts, yet other religions are fine?SargeV1.4 wrote:

Scientology is intended purely to exploit people for their money. The very people who started it had no other intentions. Religions are often misused, but are not directly intended to make money nor exploit people. Religion is genuine belief that can be abused, scientology is a scam in itself.

Ok I see everyones point about all religions, I am an Atheist. Scientology is looked at by other religions as a cult. The reason this is, its because a cult can be described as using scare tactics to convince you to join your rank (telling you that you're depressed, you will be surprised how true, yet funny the South Park episode was), also can be described as inflicting bodily harm. I have heard that scientology pushes the suicide thing quite a bit, not really forcing it, but "implying" it, almost like a psychologist, to get it in your head. Over and over again. I am not defending any other religions either. Nobody is perfect. Every religion has their faults, but no religion should ever use fear, and require a hard core legal team to flourish, its just dumb to believe you can gain followers by scaring the bejesus out of them.
Both of you make good points.
When I was in catholic school as a kid, it was implied hat if you sinned and did not repent, you would go to hell.
Isn't that a scare tactic?

Religions are just cults with bigger following. It's all guff. All churches are money-driven and politically motivated/influenced. Try walking around the Vatican for a day - the wealth on display is sickening. Scientology is just another money racket.

Are you seriously suggesting that priests from a religion that didn't exist yet wrote the bible?usmarine2007 wrote:

Actually, cults are religions. But we both know you're referring to mainstream religion, and even then you're wrong: cults are quite distinct. Flying Spaghetti Monsterism, for example, is not a cult despite it's small following. Scientology, on the other hand, is a cult despite it's (relatively) large following.CameronPoe wrote:

Who wrote it? What people wrote the first one? And why are there different versions?Bubbalo wrote:

You really don't understand the Bible, do you usmarine?
A cult is a term designating a cohesive group of people (sometimes a relatively small and recently founded religious movement, sometimes numbering in the hundreds of thousands) devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding culture or society considers to be far outside the mainstream.Bubbalo wrote:

Flying Spaghetti Monsterism is a swipe at religion - a joke - not a cult. Religions are not cults per se and cults are not religions, as defined above. By the definition above my statement is broadly correct.
A definition which was taken off of Wikipedia. A religion is a belief system, any belief system. Atheism and Christianity are both religions (Atheism is unorganised, Christianity is organised). So is Scientology. The term "cult" is a specific term in sociology. I don't know the actual definition, and the resident sociologist isn't here to ask, but it isn't just some random term to be thrown about.
I had to when I was younger, but I have since emptied out that nonsense.Bubbalo wrote:

I gotta agree with Usmarine for once. most religeons should be put right with scientology, at least alot of current incarnations of major religeons is a scam, and scientology is right with them more than worse than them.

Scientology is a cult. If you want to believe in xenu then be my guest. Its what the Church of Scientology does as operating procedure which is the problem. Christianity has cults, so does islam...so does any religion. The problem isn't the religion...it is those who exploit others in the name of religion.
Atheism is not a religion. I did not make an active choice to be an atheist, but simply did not have any faith in any religion. I do not follow a set of principles, or a belief system, in common with others. I follow my own principles and beliefs to the exclusion of religious influence.Bubbalo wrote:
