"HAVANA, Cuba (AP) - Cuban authorities seized just 1.7 tons of narcotics in 2006, the lowest amount in 11 years, state media reported Friday.

The Communist Party daily Granma said the tally - a bit more than half the amount of illicit drugs seized on the island in 2004 - is evidence that interdiction plans are helping to keep narcotics out of Cuba.

The report said that 1,470 pounds of narcotics were recovered in dozens of operations after they were dropped by air for fast boats waiting off the coast of Cuba.

Cuban authorities say most illegal drugs are merely passing through on their way to United States from South America. " - Linky

That's got bad news written all over it. I am aware that Cuba is not the only country from which illegal drugs enter the country but those are pretty disappointing numbers for a whole year. I sincerely hope that the law enforcement agencies will take notice of this and watch out from now on.

I'm not sure if you are supporting Cuba's narcotic measures or criticizing them?

Its 1 470 pounds of shit that didn't make it to the USA's shores due to the Cubans efforts. You should be thankful. Cuba protecting the children of the USA...........pity the lack of bitterness didn't work both ways.
These modern day south American drug smugglers are a bit rubbish anyway. he C.I.A FTW!!!!!

I really rather not derail this thread, but where does the US derive its power to regulate what its citizens can or cannot consume?
