I am a pacifist, and I have been exposed to 'violent' video games and movies my entire life. I don't think there is any correlation between simulated violence and real-life violence so long as you keep the two seperate. I honestly think that people who play a game like GTA and then want to go out and shoot people are mentally disturbed to begin with, there has to be some sort of disconnect between what is real and what isn't in their minds. As someone else mentioned, I saw some videos of Iraqi civilians being completely decimated by an attack chopper gun and I had to turn it off because it made me sick to my stomach. Yet, watching a movie like SAW has no effect on me because my brain can differentiate between real violence and simulated violence.

i think that there has been some constructive recognisation of the impact of violent video games. as there is no solid answer that video game violence is 'bad for you' like the evidence on say smoking or drug usage, so there is an array of opinions and acceptance levels on the matter. however i still point out that there is a problem with the individuals who can convince themselves that there are people who enjoy having violence inflicted upon them such as the year 8 student purposefully hurting other people and even worse those who are younger. (at least be brave enough to go for some one of equal strength, age and bravery otherwise you are simply a bully.)

furthermore if you need an outlet to vent your anger and fustration you need to be considering anger management not simply fueling the anger by venting it in a situation that provides little to no consequence for your violent and unneeded actions.

finally the thought that continually pops into my head when discussing this topic is that if the players of these games so thoughroughly enjoy violent and challenging situation why not put these 'talents' to real use and serve your country in the army where consequences are real and you can not simply start again when you're dead. for those who say no then i guess your 'bravery' is just a front and that you just want to turn off the violence when you have had enough bullying for one day.

I don't know about that, but one sleepdepped saturday at work I saw a drum and thought to myself "If I shoot that, it'll explode!", and when I finally got two chicks in bed at once I swear I heard an american voice saying "you've been recommended for an award"...
