Yup, smoking is bad.

I really don't see the point in it, except that:

Apart from that I haven't smoked a cigarette in more than 6 years.

lol.

Anyways, I don't see why smoking isn't outlawed, at least in the US. I mean, in a country where video games with excessive nudity and violence are denounced by both political parties (rare I know!), it's surprising we let an actual poison be sold in stores. Yeah, "nobody forces you" to smoke a cigarette. It's up to you if you want to take a few puffs and get addicted. Nobody forces you to swallow cyanide pills, but we don't sell them anyways.

Smoking kills, it's that simple. Everyone knows this now. I think even the "global warming is an illusion" crew realizes that smoking kills people who do it. And yet it is still legal. They want to ban listening to iPods and other such music players on the streets of NYC because it distracts people? I think far more people die to smoking than to getting run over because they walked a red light while listening to their tunes.

I for one would support an outright ban of smoking. You can't place all the blame on the smoker. If you've got strong willpower you wouldn't ever smoke, but if you're a usual human being then peer pressure might be too much and you take a few puffs just to see what it's like. The nicotine gets in you and before you know it, you're another Marlboro/Camel/Newport/Cigarette of choice bitch. A slave to their increasing bank account size. My father was a smoking addict, and thankfully he was able to break the habit. Whether or not he'll get adverse health effects later on (I think he kicked it about 5 years ago), I don't know.

That being said, smoking does have a cool image to it. If someone made a cigarette that didn't create problems for your health, he'd be the richest person on earth.

Smoking is the scourge of society.

On that note of chemicals inhaled, an ad campaign in Australia says that one of the chemicals inhaled is HCN. That's Hydrogen cyanide... that same chemical that was used to execute people in America's gas chambers.

Another thing I hate about smoking:
I have a expensive nice camera. When I spend 1000 on some more camera gear, my friends think I'm an idiot. But they themselves spend much more per year on smoking!!?! Morons...

reemind me when america had gas chambers please?
As in this...

Gas chambers have been used for capital punishment in the United States in the past to execute criminals, especially convicted murderers. Five states (Wyoming, California, Maryland, Missouri, and Arizona) technically retain this method, but all allow lethal injection as an alternative.

To kill the person, cyanide pellets (potassium cyanide) are dropped into sulphuric acid, making HCN gas.

2KCN (s) + H2SO4 (aq) → 2HCN (g) + K2SO4

The following states have used the gas chamber to execute prisioners:

Yep, that's the same HCN that you inhale when smoking...

For anyone who thinks banning the growing, selling and use of tobacco is a good idea, just remember what a great job Prohibition did.(sarcasm) And look at what the illegal drug trade has created. Then figure out how you're going to make up for the lost tax revenue that comes from cigarette sales.

Personally, I think any substance you want to use or abuse should be legal, so long as it's done in your home or on private property. and if you commit a crime while under the influence then you have a mandatory minimum sentence that is double the length of if a sober person committed the same offense.
