Baseball is so boring. And 162 games a year only makes it worse. "Oh noes, my team lost. They only have 161 more games to make up for it."

Granted I enjoy playing baseball.

Your arguement is flawed. Bonds was never a batter who barely had home runs. The guy ALWAYS connected well and sent the ball flying over the fence. Steriods making someone hit home runs more is like, Omar Visquel. If he took them and THEN started hitting massive bombs, then there'd be a problem. Bonds, I say again, has hit home runs in the same fashion as he always has. With power.

Also, even if he took steriods, THEY WEREN'T BANNED SUBSTENCES WHEN HE DID/DIDN'T TAKE THEM!!!

It's Pujols. Anyway, the reasons the Yankees haven't tried to get him are one, they definitely do not have the spending to have to pay another $15 million contract and two, the Cardinals are NOT stupid enough to give up Albert Pujols for anything less than, say, A-Rod and Jeter.

I wasn't trying to prove that Bonds did or did not do anything, I was trying to make two points.  1.  Steroids can have an effect on a hitters ability to hit home runs.  2.  As an off shoot of that Bond (who has several symptoms associated with steroid use including his increase in muscle mass, hair loss, acne, and the expanded size of his head) may have gotten some extra power to muscle a few more hits over the fence.  It is a fact that Bonds has always hit well and with power, but there are some questionable areas in both his appearance and his stats that would leave some, if not most, to believe that he did use steroids to get an advantage and quite possibly the home run record.

As for the whole banned substances: Yes they were banned, seeing as Anabolic Steroids, Human Growth Hormone, and other substances he has been accused of taking (and has the physical signs of using), are ILLEGAL DRUGS except by prescreption (and if you could find a document saying any of the above substances were prescribed to him you would have a bit better argument).  The fact that they are illegal under government standars makes them banned from sports by default.

Illegal drugs were banned yes, but not steroids specifically.

I pretty much assume this was baseball's method of hiding their steroid abuse.  They didn't specifically ban steroids, just illegal drugs.  So if a player was caught with steroids, they could just say he was caught with illegal drugs, and people would probably assume a different direction than anabolic steroids.  It's pretty obvious from different sources that a LOT of people have juiced in Baseball, yet we're here talking about one guy.

You obviously have no clue about Baseball, or what your talking about. . . .

EVERY SINGLE GAME COUNTS!! When your team is fighting for a wild card spot or fighting in the division, those stupid early games that you thought "didnt matter" MATTER!!! Its critical to try and win every game, because if your team is a contender, they matter!! If your a Colorado Rockies/Tampa Bay Devil Rays fan, then I understand your discontent. . .

Baseball is one of THE MOST strategic games out there in the world of sport.  In you infinite wisdom you might have missed that detail. . . .

Your right about one thing. . .Baseball is an absolute JOY/priviledge to play!!!

Last Giants/Dodger game I went to last season, the Dodger fans were the ones gettin their asses kicked in the stands!!! lol  I saw two guys get drilled in the grill and escorted out, WITH HELP!!!

Its true we havent won in SF yet. . . .YET!  Its been almost twenty years since you guys have won the whole thing, not too mention played in the world series. . . .Remember we were just there in 02'!! We choked in that series I know, but non the less. . . .

Dodgers/Dodger fans are gay, cause A. fans are fickle in LA, and would rather make a fashion statement in the stands than concentrate on the game B. your payroll is always rediculous and you guys never make the playoff/barely make it in when you do, then lose. . . . C. talk shit constantly with nothing to back up anything, and end up getting your asses kicked in Pac Bell Park by no nonsense militant Giants fans. . .

I was born and raised a Hockey player (Go Flyers (even though they suck))

So to me, baseball is boring as hell, can't stand to watch it.  Hell, football gets boring sometimes too for me.  BUT, I do enjoy going to minor league games now and then with friends/family, and would never turn down a free or cheap good seat at a major game.  And if a good playoff is going on, I'll watch it.  Year the Sox beat the Yankees a few years ago is a good example.  And I also understand that someone raised on a slow game like baseball, would have no desire or interest in something fast, like hockey.

I think also that why I think poorly on other sports is because I played hockey my entire life, and played at a fairly high level until I fucked up my shoulder.  I played all sports though, still do casually.  Don't like playing basketball, because if I can't knock someone down protecting my net, I get pissed.  Football, while fun to play and watch, has no real fluid transition between defense and offense, and a good player on offense (quarterback) can totally suck at defense at get 20 mil a year.  And I know, the way the game is structured you don't need to be, I just think your a better athlete if you can.  Baseball's fine to play, but nothing more than casual fun.  Soccer isn't bad if it's small scale.

As far as Bonds using steroids, the point is moot.  Ever since the first allegation, he never had the chance to win the home-run crown outright.  Even if charges are dropped and no asterisk shows up on his HR tally, that asterisk will be seen by everyone who ever held a shred of doubt.

I also find it funny baseball is the only major American sport where you can use steroids and dominate.  Just goes to show that half the game equates to a pissing contest.  Use steroids in basketball? Hell, you may be able to smack Shaq around, but you would be big, clumsy, slow, and worthless.  Hockey or Football?  One nice hit and injuries would ruin you.  Just look at how injured Bonds has been, and he plays a zero-contact sport; besides the occasional home-plate collision(fun as they are, I played catcher, and am personally responsible for two broken legs) or the fat-manager-in-spandex slap-fight with other fat-manager which leads to 30-grown-man-sissy-fight at the pitchers mound.  Same goes for McGwire at the end of his career.

A few comments...
Bonds: have always loved him, he's a fantastic player.  He's in the conversation when discussing the greatest players ever.

Steroids: strength has some impact on hitting ability, but more important elements are hand/eye coordination, and eyesight.  (The earlier you recognize a slider, the better...get it?)  Steroids don't help this.

The magic of baseball...I caught some of a spring training game on TV yesterday.  They were interviewing Tony LaRussa in the dugout during one inning.  His team won the World Series last year, he has 2000+ wins as a manager.  They asked him why he keeps managing, and how will he motivate his team this year to win it all again?  His quiet response summed up for me one of the reasons why baseball is so magic...he said he continues to love the unpredictability of the game.  He said "here it is, tied 2-2 in the seventh inning of the the first game of spring training, and I'm nervous.  Anything could happen right now, we don't know how this game is gonna turn out."

Barry Bonds sux. He's a lying cheater. I hope when he breaks the record, which will most likely happen in Dodger stadium  either today or this week , all the fans stand, turn their backs, and not say a peep. It would be so cool if the stadium went dead silent. Fuck Bonds and the Giants too!!

I watch baseball. It's like Test Cricket. They don't hit the ball often enough. If there was less innings and a fixed amount of pitches, it would be more interesting. Like how 50 over ODI's or Twenty20 blows the shit out of Test Cricket.

Dodgers will never win a world series unless they get some power in the lineup and get a manager that know what the hell he's doing... (i know the perfect guy)

Angels.... gay

Giants... Steroids don't make you hit homeruns.  Steroids don't make your hand-eye coordination better.  They may make you hit the ball further, but Barry Bonds has been hitting homeruns since he started.  When he hits 756, he gets props from me.  they guys stats compared to Aarons are just no contest.  Bonds is a stud.

Oakland... they have a shit load of lefties and they're a bunch of scrappers... wish they could win something too.

Padres.... Maddux is a God and can place any pitch wherever he wants to.  All that hype about guys throwing 95+ is bullshit.  Maddux barely breaks 85, but has amazing movement.

And i know you're a die hard Giant fan, but enough with the "dodger fans are pussies" nonsense.  You guys have what, 5 world series? Last one in 1954?? Dodgers have 6 since 1955?  I mean, really.  That's all I gotta say..

not to mention your 47-58 record this season... nice job. How does the Dodger's ass look way back in last place of the NL west?

scoreboard bitch!
