We've beat the odds for too long with modern medicine, every species has its carrying capacity; we're included.  Ignorance will be the death of our species.

Edit:  Or stop having more than 2 kids.  If you need more, adopt - problem solved.  Keep the population level and slowly declining to a level healthy for the earth.  Not terribly difficult, but we're lazy

I'd be more worried about the population growth stuff. BTW it kind of skips over the fact that many millions of Chinese harldy get an education at all, so I wouldn't shit your pants just yet.

I fail to see the point in this except that India and China are going to collapse if they don't stop having kids.

mm, I doubt it would just be China and India... a pandemic is on the way if we all don't pull our heads out of our asses.  Do I have any special facts to back that up? no - just a basic understanding of 9th grade biology.

If the out smart human with the ability to have emotions thing ever happened i would buy only a male programmed computer never a female.

China will defiantly have a major famine. Happened before and it can happen again, and it doesn't really effect them, since they always got people to replace.

so when can i have said computer augment my current brain capabilities?  And if computers will become that powerful, does that mean the possibility will open up to download ourselves into a new body through a buffer computer??  If so, my goal of living 6.3 million years (and then shedding my physical form and existing as pure energy) may not be so far off.  This makes my week!

Oh, and the whole China and India honor roll thing.  You know what that means?  All you kids need to stop slacking off like a bunch of losers and actually try in school.  Half ass isn't gonna cut it anymore around here.  You are accountable for being able to do the mental work of 5 people.  Better get off this forum and get back to studying.  Oh wait, that includes me... bye.

It's fairly reasonable to assume that at some point in the far flung future that biological life will be pretty much replaced by artificial life. Biological life is poorly designed for survival outside our own planet so it's reasonable to argue that assuming we don't nuke each other to bits at some point we'll be sending off our robot creations to populate the galaxy, and they'll become the future of life in the universe.

We'll always have the upper hand on computers. Unless we're stupid enough to give computers automated self-defence systems we can always just pull the plug or send some lead down its stupid 10101011 face and shut it down.

I was under the impression that this was based on the old computer doubling in processor speed every 18 months pattern. While this has been working well so far, I heard it's hitting a bit of a road block now. 3-5 semiconductor technology has pretty much hit the limit to which you can feasably shrink transister sizes due to inherent material properties. Now they've started using multiple chips etc. to continue the desired increase in speed, but the likely replacement technologies are a ways off becoming feasable commercial technology and their potential is hard to determine. Things like quantum computers are years, probably decades away from being in your household pc.

I think the predictions are way off.
I dunno we will have to wait and see, It really wasnt that long ago that computers too up entire rooms, then they ended up on desks, now they are carried in small briefcase like bags, hell they even fit in pockets now.
Ever see a Tacticomp?  They are a little bigger than a standard palm pilot, but they pack everything a laptop has and more they use windows XP, and have an e-mail feature/ TAC-Chat , GPS, and many many more uses.
Now if we can put a 40gig HD, 1 gig Pentium, and a GPS unit into this small of a device (90% of the tacticomps size is the battery) Imagine what we can in several years.  http://www.sncorp.com/prod/c4n/int4/tacticomp5.shtml

Also I read somewhere there is a college that has created something super skinny, to be used as a mother board. The material is 4 times as conductive as silicon, and is bendable.  Its a step...will be about 15 years before we will possibly see a gain out of something like that but ya never know... from the room main frames to todays PC's...was about what 45 , 50 years?
Maybe that was in Maximum PC not sure.  I will have to research that.
