So let me get this straight. The E stands for 10 zeros?
no.
E10 = 10^10. so E6 = 10^6. this is not to be confused with e^10, which yields 110132.3. this gets into logarithms, which is a different lesson.

This is merely a more efficient way to say the same thing.

From wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponentiation):
Powers of 10 are easily computed in the base ten (decimal) number system. For example, 10^8 = 100000000.
Exponentiation with base 10 is used in scientific notation to describe large or small numbers. For instance, 299,792,458 (the speed of light in a vacuum, in meters per second) can be written as 2.99792458·10^8 and then approximated as 2.998·10^8, (or sometimes as 299.8·10^6, or 299.8E+6, especially in computer software).

it deals with decimal places

This is gonna be a pain in the ass typing this, but:

Example: 1 x 10^5(or denoted as 1e10)

Start with 1
1 = 1.0
Count 5 decimal places over from the start
1.0 is what we start with
10 is 1 place over
100 is 2
1000 is 3
10000 is 4

100000 is 5

Example 2: 1.53 x 10^3(or denoted as 1.53e3
1.53 is what we start with
15.3 is 1
153.0 is 2

1530.0 is 3

You won't even have to think about it after you cover scientific notation, which I hope you did since you're 14-15 as it's 4th or 5th grade level math. As soon as you take a physics or chemistry class you'll actually use it more than twice and you won't have to use a calculator unless its a really long number.

finally done with my 7 page packet with pages front and back... took a total of about 4 hours. It's only a minor grade too which fucknig pisses me off because there is so much work it should be a major grade. There was so many equations where you had to do so many step like finding one variable to figure out the other problem and stuff.
