- Tactical Thinking for the Strategically Green Squaddie
First off Requesting Sticky on this target
Anyway, this is one of the better posts I've seen relating to actual tactics in BF2, having just played a round of Karkand with possibly the most tactically ignorant team I have ever played with I will try and explain to you how the round went.
First round we were playing as USMC, me and this one other person (I forget his/her name) trudged off to cap the Gatehouse, we get there encountering no resistance, we cap the flag, nothing turns up, we cap the trainwreck, still no-one else in the entire sever north of Hotel, we go to suburbs, cap that (see where this is going??) While me and this said person capped everysingle flag other than hotel everyone else in the entire frigging server kept charging like headless chickens into the complete barrage of bullets while my two man squad went in and did more work than anyone. Thankfully our commander did notice us so we had constatn UAV over our heads (not that it really mattered)
When we eventually did encounter resistance the combination of medic and support swaping kits seemed to work quite well, and I think I ended up dying 2 times and making 8ish kills, but with more team points then anyone else!
Now in round 2 (Me playing MEC) a few people had twigged on to the idea of tactics, and we formed a decent squad with a commander who realised we were working together and helped us, despite 10 out of the 16 people in our team constantly running into pointless frontlines we managed to pull of a decent win, with the US never taking more then 1 base at a time.
Just goes to show that tactics are the way forward, BF2 was meant to be played in squads, everyone has had times when they thought, "screw it, lets go make a few kills then die, then rinse and repeat" but if only 1 squad on a team would actually work together then that side will win every single time.

Thanks, Ducatti and Towelly.
And, Kontrolcrimson? One bullet often ends my game. ;/
I really need to work on that KDR...

You are my hero, we should play sometime. I love to defend, just like my friend, especially since you get a bonus for killing a guy trying to cap your flags. Also you have the element of surprise and since I am support therefore slow, that is a huge plus. You rock man. Total + karma for you.
*grins* I like to defend, but unfortunately there are few maps where people do defend a whole lot, in my experience. I like Fushe Pass - there's one base in particular which is always hotly contested, and, if I'm playing that map, you'll almost always find me there.Leebster wrote:

Dying repeatedly.
Usually for a purpose, though, like distracting that tank long enough for a teammate to crisp it with an AT rocket. Huzzah!
At least, that's what I usually claim afterwards. It looks better than 'Yeah, I didn't see that many-ton vehicle right in front of me...'
I play support alot myself, although I still have more hours as assault. I'm hapless as assault, though, hence the horrific K/D ratio, I suspect. Then again I might just be horrific all around, thanks to the game style of the people I tend to end up playing with. And yes, it is their fault if I die repeatedly, since they aren't joining squads! And my BR - 147 as MEC on Sharqi - was done on a server with about twenty people in total, wherein everybody was working together. That was fun. Not enough VOIP, though. That would've been better.
Anyhow, I'd be happy to play with anyone here - if I knew of a server that I could use regularly. Grr! Hopefully I'll be more active with BF2 soon. And also remember to use XFire. >.>
Updated: new section about helicopters added. Rar.

Nice work Auqakuh... I think its time for you to lead a squad on BF2s EU server. Anyways just give us your opinion on teamspeak, you know our squadleaders are gratefull for any advices

I was SL for a brief period on Karkand a few nights back, had a good time too. I've been Commander a few times as well - I take full 'credit' for an awful round for our team on Dragon Valley. Other than that I think I did okay.fon|sl4y3r wrote:

I can only be on teamspeak, though, if my connection seems to allow it. Sometimes latency increases a bit too much with teamspeak running as well (especially since this connection is shared with another BF2ser).
But, for now, my local exchange is being uncooperative again. I've narrowed the issue down to a major problem with the noise differential - being the difference between background static on the line and the ADSL signal from the board at the local telecoms exchange. Basically, background static is too high / the ADSL signal is too weak, resulting in a very stop-start connection. Just now when I was on it was dropping every five seconds or so - and sometimes it can seem fine but really isn't, because people freeze, missiles stay airborne permanently hung there, when I try to get into an APC or any vehicle it becomes 'remote controlled' in that on my screen I'm still outside it but serverside I'm actually in it and driving it...
The list goes on and on. Makes things amazingly (and, when not just downright infuriating, amusingly) unstable.
It's very fast (as evidenced by a ping of 30, which for my connection is 'ideal' to the Netherlands server), but intermittently fast, which is not stable enough for online gaming. Hopefully the exchange will sort the issue out soon.
Last but not least, thanks for all the positive remarks.

Also, as a kind of 'sidenote', an earlier form of this was previously posted on the official EA BF2 forums over on the EA website.
It received no replies whatsoever. Glad this one did a bit better!

Damn this is old!
Anyway, since I'm back and around once again (woot), I'll update this some more as things occur to me.
Which no doubt they will, since I have a big mouth. >.>

Fixed some dreadful typos. Good grief. If anyone can think of anything to add, please tell me. I'd be happy to add your stuff into the first post - especially things relating to the later patches, since most of this was written -quite- some time ago.
dang nice thread and hard work dude. But that thing called teamwork will always be a foreign concept in pubs. But good job, I would +1 you but I don't have any more karma.
Good thread ! And yes, a good squad working as a team will always beat an unorganized group of rag tags.
Played a 64 on 32 Karkand recently as a SL (on USMC) and I had a great squad and a good commander. First round we tried to cap Hotel but proved ineffective since it just became a nade spam fest there so we figured we'd go directly for the Gatehouse CP. Won just about every single round after that
P/S : As a SL ,PLEASE do not simply rush up into the front lines ! You're a mobile spawn point FFS ! If you die, your squad's offense/defense completely stops ! So don't try to be a point hoe, you're an asset to the squad and especially the commander since you're acting as the arms and legs on the ground for him.
