Well, my favorite is how Al Gore's movie points out how global warming is being caused by everything EXCEPT, his, and the celebrities that support him, exuberant lifestyles. What an "inconvenient truth" that is huh?

Nothing like, do as I say, and not as I do.

As I mentioned earlier....

No Varegg, I think you miss what some of us are saying.  Some of us have a problem with the "do as I say, not as I do" BS.
Strange that those of you who hold that view seem to agree totally with the US's "Do as we say, not do as we do" attitude to foreign policy.
The over extravagance of celebrities is shocking. I can't condone it. But when it comes down to it the amount of carbon emissions produced by celebrities is ultimately inconsequential - although I wholeheartedly agree they are on the whole a bunch of over paid hypocritical pricks with no grasp on reality, look at Tom Cruise.

NOT JUST GORE!  All of his hollyweird friends / supporters.  You know, the one who voted for the Oscar.  And I did not compare hamburgers to his traveling habits.  I compared to being respected for saying one thing and doing another.
You have a point i`ll give you that but it`s still no excuse !
Excuse for what?
For not showing the man respect, he has put down alot of effort into this over a long period of time, Gore started with enviromental issues long before it became popular and have persued his believes even though mocked by his government coworkers and badmouthed by the companies making their money by raping the earth even though they knew the consequenses.

They knew the fact that green house gases was filling up and stored in the higher atmosphere allready in the 70`s and what has been done about that until this day ? ...... nothing !

Then came the UN climate report and Al Gore`s documentary to back eachother up, perfect timing almost on the point of no return !

So what are you going to do about it ? (goes for all forum members)

*Will you drive a car with a lesser engine ?
*Will you cut down on your use of electricity ?
*Will you rather take a walk than drive to your local store ?
*Will you try to convince your neighbour to do his part and then again convince his neighbour ?
*Will you try to convince yourself that whatever little you do can be seen in a broader perspective ?

*Or will you just give a fuck cause you`ll be dead anyway when the shit really hits the fan ?

I alone can only do so much, if a million more like me do what i do it can make a difference, if a billion more like me do what i do we can save a whole planet and that`s an encouraging thought

^^
Guess who said that and you`ll get a karma !

Why not ? ...... what do you have to loose by introducing this to friends and neighbours and get a discussion going in your community, i know this forum hides the fact that many of us can brawl like a lion behind the curtain of anonymity and still in RL seldom raises the voice about anything !

Because I am sure they know already.  I have been hearing about global warming since the 80's.  I am aware and pretty much everyone else is, unless they have been living in a cave.

My guess is everyone else might have heard about it but they are not willing to do squat about it as long as they don`t notice anyone else doing anything, or lets wait and see what happends !

Why should i be the first to drive that gay looking Toyota Prius ?

You're blowing electricity right now, though the same amount would be produced even if you turned your computer off.

Have you ever heard of supply and demand?

And how much energy was expended in powering that enormous display of his in that 'documentary?'

Yup, but it doesn't debunk the accuracy of what I just said.

We've been through this particular merry-go-round before, and I'm not buying another ticket.

It does, however, add the context that what you said is only accurate in the short term.

I hate how Al Gore rides the global warming situation for his own media gain.

I go back and forth on the global warming issue.  On the one hand, I want to do something about reducing the forms of pollution that cause the greenhouse effect.

However, on the other hand, when I see people miss the forest for the trees by focusing on Al Gore's politics rather than the facts he's presenting, it makes me welcome the thought of most of humanity drowning from rising sea levels.

He isn't really. The movie makes it very clear he's been on global warming long before it became a media fad.

I'd have to agree. Sometimes I think Gore is too much of a polarizing point for people who want to continue to claim that global warming is just a plot concocted by America-hating lefties and "eco-nazis".

He has  enjoyed his 5 homes ( none of which is less than 4000 sq ft, the biggest I think was 10,000). He has also enjoyed his private jets, yachts, travelled in gas guzzling SUV's in his motorcade, for just as long as he has been on his crusade.

I guess "lead by example" just isn't a philosophy that can be found in the liberal creed, is it?

I don't have a problem with the message, but he is the one of the few that can actually afford a hybrid car, or fly anywhere he wants, when he wants on a commercial airplane. Yet he preaches what the rest of us should do, as he does the opposite.

Well, at least he's trying to educate people.  That's more than I can say for Bush.

But seriously...  If I were a rich guy like Gore, I'd probably not even bother with trying to support a cause.  Most of the time, people just focus on your wealth and assume that you can't be sincere and successful at the same time.

Don't get me wrong -- I think Gore should practice what he preaches too, but at least he stands for something other than just his own profit.  He might be making money from "An Inconvenient Truth", but he could find easier ways to get more money than doing presentations on global warming.

Except that it isn't a matter of getting a hybrid car.  Sure, you could choose a more fuel efficient car (which saves you money anyway), but far more important is getting people involved to force the government to act.  The biggest issue is industry, not consumer.

Correct and also wrong at the same time, consumer emitted emissions is the cheapest place to start and if enough people do whatever they can that itself is possibly enough to make a difference, the industry will be way more exspensive and take a longer time to be done with their nesesary steps but then it will yield a bigger effect !
