Quotes from the American Taliban

how can it be that people actually end up this backwards? how do people get through life with so much hate, malice and hypocrisy weighing on their hearts?

that's somehow funny. In every other civilized democratic country people with such extremistic opinions woudn't even be taken serious enough to be quoted at all.

George Bush Sr. (President of the United States)
"I don't know that atheists should be considered citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."

So, it turns out that the first Bush wasn't much better than his son after all....

I'm very suspicious of that one. It doesn't sound like SR at all. I would like to hear the context that was in.

Agreed...  George #1 was generally a secular guy.  I'm just going by what was posted on that link...  I'll see if I can cross-reference it.

The quote is all over the internet, and apparently Rob Sherman (a journalist) reported him as saying it.

Here's how I look at it.  Bush is a politician who was very much aligned with the Religious Right like his son is and Reagan was.  So, he probably did say something like this to a religious crowd.

Whether or not he really believes that is another matter.

Have no idea; checked YouTube, no results. Got the link through Wikiquote.

All the hits I get are from left wing/ atheist sites. I'm not saying he didn't say it. From time to time all politicians say some dumb stuff. His reply sounds kind of knee jerk. Most of those other quotes I can buy into since the statements are coming from whackos.

I wouldn't think any right wing sites are fond of putting up stuff on their site that will worsen their image.

Jansyc, I have a feeling Bush actually said this quote, but it is true that the sources presented are questionable in their agendas.  I'm saying this as an atheist myself.

Wow... How can people be so misguided? I dont know whether its due to their up-bringing and its their parents fault or they have been influenced when they were younger. Either way, that way of thinking is as equally disturbing as it is saddening, makes you look at the kind of world we live in.

I am an atheist too, I've never liked either Bush'es, and I despise the atheist-site's net design .

The sources ARE questionable indeed, but saying that "no right wing sites has the quote" is the same as saying "no right wing sites quotes Mao or Lenin". I hope you'll agree, for now I have to go to bed. Karma for all.

Doesn't the Bible say pi is equal to exactly 3? Something about a corral and it being 30 cubits around? If so, why are there still people, millenia later, who still take it word for word?

I really doubt that Bush would have said something so damaging in public. This sounds like an excerpt that some aide would include in his polemic expose as "something I heard Bush say."

I know what you mean, and I wouldn't think a right wing site would have the quote either.
