This just furthers my belief that a human writer cannot create comedy funnier than the comedy that spontaneously generates itself from humanity.
I hunted your post down to argue with you.

Yeh, he's an idiot.

Also, it is not brainwashing. The best forces from around the world break down the new recruits with intensive training to find the best. They then continue to build the recruits back up as competent, well-rounded individuals who already see themselves as a member of a team.

Mind explaining to me why everything you talk about is so noble and important yet anything us jarheads talk about is useless crap?

Watch your step when you get down from your soapbox.

Seriously, who the hell are all these people with opinions of emotional control in combat when they have not been in combat? USAF MP? A bunch of military wannabes? YOU people think you understand combat? Are you flippin kidding me?
Sadly, some of them do think they know.

Okay the guy sounded like a faggot, that is true, and he sounds like a guy with a real axe to grind with the marine corp but many of his biased comments had a grain of truth in them. Does part of the marine corps' strength not come from the fact that the marines are blindly loyal jarheads who will do anything and everything thats is asked of them thanks to a rigorous series of physical and psychological training programs?

Are they not pretty much regular soldiers (If I'm wrong feel free to inform me, I've watched discovery channel documentaries on the process of becoming marines so I'm not a scholar on the subject but there training never seemed extraordinary to me)? I have a friend who was US special forces for a number of years, he served in Panama and a number of other countries and he said the special forces weren't spectacular never mind the marine corps. The point the guy made about marine corps recruiting from poor neighbourhoods has a grain of truth in it too, many people who join the military join on the grounds of having very few alternate options as regards employment or wishing to avail of the assistance in going to college following service.

Most of the people posting here seemed more concerned about the guy's voice than trying to constructively dissect his biased comments.

I can't speak for the other Devil Dogs here.  But I can recall plenty of the times the phrase "fuck that" came up in combat.  Blind loyalty gets you killed.

For example.

Back in the late 90's, I was on a mission to evacuate and secure the embassy in Liberia.  When we got in the helo, we were told we could not load our weapons by order of the President.  I'll let you guess what we did.

i couldn't be bothered to listen to all of that
his voice nearly rotted my brain away after a minute...
the only real brainwashing i can see in the army is that it seems to turn people more right wing
and even then that isn't much and you could easily brainwash someone to be more liberal

I applaud your sensible reasoning on that occasion, I'd have done the same by the sounds of things. As a former marine what do you feel sets the marine corps apart from 'regular' soldiers? The guy in the video seemed to have a real issue with that.

Army infantry, Marine infantry, Royal marines, etc....  basically all the same when the bullets start flying.  All the BS you here about who is the best is just talk.  Kind of like college kids arguing whose fraternity is better.

What about special forces? My mate really didn't seem impressed by his own time in the special forces, he spent over 10 years active service from what I could get out of him.

Well, to explain, it is story time again.....

We were in Ft. Lewis, Washington State.  An Army base, home of the 1st(?) Special Forces Division.  We set up a little exercise.  We sat in defense and their job was to get to our command post.  Sad thing is, we knew what night there were coming.  The next morning, all of our MRE's and water was gone.  Nobody saw a damn thing.

I guess part of their strength lies in the mystery to a certain extent. We have the same thing in Ireland with the Irish Rangers, now we're neutral obviously and as such are not militarily impressive but the Rangers are spoken about in hushed tones. I've read the occasional story in the paper of the Irish Rangers pulling off spectacular rescue missions in far flung territories and there are the usual stories of 'you're not able to have family or girlfriend etc. if you join the Rangers'. My flatmate worked in a place where the head of security was ex Irish Ranger and they were never troubled by the local crime gangs (this in a neighbourhood where Crime gangs were running amok with local businesses).

There is also a common story of the Irish Rangers winning international war games tournaments against the SAS and such, do such things exist?

I don't mind at all.

Over half the people responding negatively about this guy don't even try to dispute what he's claiming even though this idiot went directly for shock value instead of just doing his homework and using some facts. Instead they're going directly into this "Hurrrrr, I wanna KILL this guy!", inadvertantly proving him right. Excuse me if I find that funny, especially when it's coming from people who talk a good game about freedom and liberty yet keep resorting to threats of violence against people who disagree with them.

The USMC does NOT recruit the dregs or deadenders.  The ASVAB scores for Marines are among the highest in the Armed Services (not to put down any other Branch).
