That's stupid.  I've heard of some stupid laws, but this beats them all.  I like America, except for some just plain idiotic laws.  Did you know it's illegal to spit on sidewalks on Friday?  Fun fact.  Wait, I'm complaining.  Complaining = Annoying.  Annoying on internet = 2 years in jail and a big fine.

I'll just plead self-defence.  Or insanity.  Yea.
I think you are mistaken.  I'm not an attorney, but what State law are you talking about?  I've been around the US and the world and the only place on Earth that I know of where it is ill eagle to spit on the sidewalk with a $2500 fine is Singapore.

the US already has stupid laws.
like in some states you may not pump your petrol yourself. someone working there must do that.
so this adds another one to the list of stupid laws...

Damn it feels good to be an European
Damn it feels good to be an American! There are stupid people that make stupid comments like you over here, too.  So tell me Bright One, what states is that a law... Right none. Period. There are gas stations that are only full-service, but it's your choice to drive across the street to a self-service station.  And to be fair and accurate every nation on Earth has some pretty stupid laws.

Nice webpage...

These dumb laws come from Norway:

"If your vehicle stalls and you leave it on the side of the road, you must mark the vehicle with a red, reflecting triangle."
- The reflecting triangle isn't something you mark your car with.. It's something you place away from your car so that others can see it, and be warned...
- Since when was it dumb to let people see your car, and give them the option of avoiding it?

"A fee is levied on each purchaser of any plastic bottle which is returned upon return of the bottle."
- Stupid law, yes - until every square inch of nature is covered in plastic bottles because there was no incentice to return it...

Strange site...
We have alot more dumb laws than that - but if they couldn't find them i guess they'll go for the closest..

Dumbpage if you ask me..

I heard that in Oregon and another one you need help with pumping gas.
and I can't think of a more dumb law on the moment.

Thank God I don't live in the US. A law the US made, does  NOT apply to ANY other country, so there. Meh.

I think you are too closely concentrating on one term here. annoy is clearly just one among many different words used. The important question at hand will be how the courts rule on each specific case. I don't think they are going to enforce it ( with regard to "annoy" ).

By the way, strangely enough, CNet did not mention any of the other words ( like abuse, threaten, harass ) but concentrated solely on the "annoy" part, which is kinda unprofessional, I guess. They wanted some attention. they got it.

It will depend on every individual american who feels "annoyed" to argue his case before a court. Let's see how it plays out before we make early judgements, I say.

Some times I get flamed for being annoying to the enemy when I fly in a chopper or a plane.
I guess if I state my name in the middle of the game, everyone will calm down or something........

I think that's the whole point, though.  It seems to me to be reasonable to prosecute someone who does that shit with the intent to abuse, threaten, or harass, but to prosecute someone who uses the internet (or phone for that matter) with the intent to annoy seems a bit ridiculous to me.
