When did they do that? We caricature our own gods. And that's healthy for all I care.

Case in point: The Muslims' problematic religious customs are just that and nothing more. Thus they should be of no interest to outsiders like us. If they want to be uptight about their prophet then so be it. Fuck them. The rest is stupid western propaganda aiming to legitimize the uncalled for aggression on our part.
Problem is that, when they get uptight, they will find the nearest Christian or Jew and vent their aggression toward that person or establishment, regardless of the fact that that person had no hand in the caricature in the first place.

But on topic, let them have their Hitler sugar packs.  Freedom of expression.  As long as it doesn't lead into something beyond just expression, so be it.

Pics of muslim made caricatures of Jesus.  I'm not posting the pics directly since they are not G-rated.  Shouldn't Christians be rioting about now?

Rioting is not a preserve of muslims, everyone is capable of it.
NOT OVER A CARTOON!

Do you know why they rioted in Dublin? Because some people from the occupied six counties wanted to walk down O'Connell St., College Green, Nassau St. and Merrion Square with orange sashes on, bowler hats on and play some music while they did it, which the Garda Suíochana were quite happy to accommodate. Hardly cause for a riot given that the Republic is free of the shackles of idiots like them.

I don't see why we can't caricature their Prophet.  They've done precisely that.

It is not as innocent as you make it sound.  The Orange Order is questionable, and it is a little bit of an exaggeration to call what happened in Dublin a "riot" imo.

To protest against the ideals of a large group of people makes more sense than protesting against a few stupid cartooninsts.

Right, except that this whole story about the cartoons is misleading in the sense that while we are focusing on this particular incident - which demonstrates no doubt an extreme reaction on their part - we are missing out on the real reason behind the polarization, namely the reasons why the west is so much interested in controlling  the Middle East. Anyway, you can bet your bottom dollar its not about some fucking cartoons.

BTW.  just because other people have done it, that doesnt mean it is justified.  People actually died in the Muslim riots.  Why you are trying to defend these nut-jobs is beyond me.

I am playing devil's advocate here - I detest the Orange Order and they are symbolic of sectarianism, oppression, triumphalism and hatred, I just coloured the 'riot' to show how perception is key. Many might look at those Dubliners and think - what a bunch of idiots, what are they getting all upset about? Similarly muslims got all upset over something symbolic that they hold very very dear to their hearts being, as they saw it, lambasted and denegrated. There is a little bit of an empathy deficit on this forum.

I'm not trying to defend the acts of the minority of muslims who rioted following the cartoons (the vast majority peaecfully protested and were content just to boycott Danish products) - I'm just trying to open peoples eyes as to why they might feel so strongly.

I would like to open your eyes to this "minority" stuff you guys toss around.  You think we think the problem is some nutjob speaker at a Mosque spewing hate and death to people?  No.  My problem is the people who are listening to them.  Thousands upon thousands listen to this crap.  And the ones who do not speak out against it, are just as bad as the ones doing the talking.

Do you have any muslim buddies, if you don't mind me asking? Also, have you ever holidayed in a muslim country (not a military 'holiday')?

A muslim speaking out against it can get himself killed or put on a hitlist.

That figures. You might want to enlighten yourself with a bit of travel and a bit of engagement. You're viewpoint is obviously solely derived from the media and your military experiences.

See, I have been places in the military obviously.  I have been to UAE, Thailand, and places like that.  But with short haircuts and US money, it is obvious we were military.

And I do not have time to travel.

I'd regard Gunslinger as a kind of internet 'friend' if such things exist. A neighbour of mine up in Donegal joined the US navy also. A US helicopter engineer stationed in Iraq decided to tag along with us at the Oktoberfest in Munich two years ago and I had a few drinks with a marine in a bar in Panamá last time I was there. As the helicopter engineer stated when we voiced our concerns about Iraq, 'Hey - it's not the best war we ever fought but it's my job.'

The point is that I don't make generalisations about US marines when I have little real and actual knowledge of them whilst you are content to generalise about all muslims yet you've probably never entered a functioning mosque except on some military maneouvre or had the craic with some muslims about their beliefs and viewpoints.

I don't know... perhaps to see what it fucking looks like for a beginning. If you go around with a closed mind about embracing other cultures and peoples then no wonder you're going to have such generalised views on people. I've been in plenty of mosques in Jerusalem and Istanbul, talked with Palestinians about how they felt about the Israeli occupation, how they felt about the UK, how they felt about the US, how they felt about the buildup to the war in Iraq... mano a mano. I've shared food with Jordanian cabbies. I've haggled with Moroccan bric-a-brac salesmen. I even had a few beers *shock horror* with some Turks when I was in Istanbul. They aren't animals you know. They're human just like you and me. There's a whole world out there you're missing with your intransigence and closed-mindedness usmarine.

If I walk into a prison the majority of the people say they are innocent.  If I walk into a catholic church, the majority think gay marriage is evil.

I don't need to go there to know what most are thinking.

I'm really biting my lip as regards insulting you after that ridiculous statement. You really are bigoted, intransigent, presumptuous, generalising and exactly the problem with the western world today. I'm glad you're in the minority.

I heard some stories via PM about you on IRC. I now believe them.

PS Go on - call me an alcoholic now. LOL
