When it´s smoking and in fire hell yes, I have gotten some kills by doing that .
There was a time when a hail of GL 'nades could destroy a full health armor.
I was in a tank on Daqui Oilfields last night and I entered the oil tank cap and I blew up two guys who just spawned. The third guy actually ran at me with his pkm. (I actually backed up just to encourage him and popped smoke.) I then ran over him. Didnt even waste a round on him. LOL. Just waiting for the Battle recorder file to download.

Not so much with tanks, sometimes when hey are somking, but i always try to shoot down smoking or firey heli's with an assault rifle .
I've done it on a couple of occasions... like some said, if it's smoking/on fire go for the kill. But I've also done it to get the tank to turn so the AT guys on my team/squad could get a better shot at it, as in sacrificing myself by distracting the tank for the benefit of the team.
And it's fun to do from roof tops, driver keeps turning and looking. Sometimes works as a stall tactic if I know arty is inbound.

Null. I play 2142, not BF2. When I used to play BF2, I would throw a nade if I had good cover to try to get the tank to move so my AT guy could get a shot.
