hey guys, my mates computer can run bf2, we've checked it out, he also has a bigpond 256kbps connection, but his ping is spiking between 102 to like 271 constantly, when i had this before upgrading (i have better computer tho) i was getting like 56-65...

we dont live far away from the GA servers so i dont see what the problem is

any assistance would be great

Wired or wireless? If it's wireless try hard wiring it to the router.

How many machines are connected to the network? If more than one, Is someone else downloading?

Virus Scan! Virus' can eat bandwidth.

All necessary ports open on router? Probably are or you wouldn't be able to connect at all, but sometimes just worth a look.

not wireless, only the one computer connected, he has a few virus scanners so im gonna drop a few, and just get ine good one!

Had a mate who had the same problem , download speeds were fine but quality of connection was poor, he got lots of lag spikes and so on when playing games, even tho bandwith seemed to be fine ,anyway turns out the phone line from his house to the street was a bit old (was a fairly old property) and apparently the telstra guy told him its a common problem ,so they replaced the wire ,and he's never been happier. same download speeds but no more spikes a nice clean reliable connection. Also theres a big difference between running bf2 single play to running online , my rig was fine singleplay but lagomatic online ,another gig of ram solved that problem instantly. anyway good luck to ya
