It is a good system, but there are ways around it. For example, the ruling party, the Conservatives, have television advertisements playing since it does not count towards the election limits. Unfortunately, these advertisements have actively been using lies to gain support.

Here's something I don't get...  It sounds like Canada has the same problem as the U.S.  You can lie on political commercials, but you can get sued for lying in any other form of media.

I say we apply slander laws to political commercials.  That way, all parties will have to be somewhat honest or get sued for not doing so.

The real problem is how you interpret what people have done.  "Pro-life" right wing Christians interpret pro-choice as murdering babies, whereas the left-wing interprets it as defending peoples rights.  There is no fine line between "fact" and "opinion", it all just meshes together in a soup of boiling cow crap, or something like that.
