i dont think shooting the cops was right.  But who decides how much that 20ft is worth?  I hate this Eminant Domain crap.  The whole property should be PURCHASED in full by the gov't according to market value which should not change based upon eminant domain(its not worth as mch if you know 20ft is going to be missing etc...).
I agree sometimes the gov't needs the land but i have seen the cases where it is just more convenient than building said project elsewhere.
Also i kind of agree with the guy(not about killing people), guns are legal.  In the const. to defend your home.  That is what the guy was doing.  Again, i dont agree with killing ppl or cops.  A warning shot would only start a gunfight.  How else can he defend his home???

Ah to hell with it.  Cops should have known, after all it is S Carolina.  Did they think he would smile and shake their hands??

On a side note.  Why do we never hear of Big Buisness having land expropriated?? Hmmm.

Btw wouldn't it be better (for the dead at least) if he didn't have a gun?
Maybe he would've stabbed them to death. Hit 'em over the head as they came in, broke their necks..many other ways to die.

Or maybe if nobody had guns, federal authority would have an easier time trampling all over everyone.

Calmer than you are.

As so happens in all "civilized countries" lol
Federal authority is formed by the people and its "supposed" to help the people. Its not supposed to be something you have to protect yourself from. There is something very wrong with the whole thing when people have to rely on guns.
Plus, he fucker could always sue the state.

Even with gun control this is the kind of person who would have had an arsenal in his basement to protect against the UN New World Order black helicopters.

He does seem to be pretty psychotic, so I don't know if he'll necessarily get the death penalty, but he's getting life without parole at the least.

I was told that the value of property does not outweigh the value of life. And the article made it seem like the Cop was standing on the front porch, and the door gets opened, cop get shot and pulled into the house. The partner gets out of the car, gets shot. These guys are total nutcases

Hey come on, don't blame it on the state. I'm from SC and I've turned out alright.  Albit I play video games, but I'm a decent enough fellow.  Got all my teeth, my family tree branches out not in, I was accepted into every four year college and university that I applied to, and am in the USMC reserves.  So don't flame the state.

As for all the liberals, this is why your welfare and social reform acts have failed.  You've failed to help the people who need it the most.  The south has the worst public education system around and yet they get no extra money to bring it up to par.  There are no reasons for the teachers to go to the rural communities, or even any communities at all to teach the children there.  It is a failure of the socialist project in America in my eyes.  I know calling it that is a little harsh but still, you say you are going to help the people but I lived there and if my mother and stepdad hadn't worked as hard as they did I wouldn't be where I am today.  It wasn't the government's money or help, in fact they were hurt more by the government then helped by it because of all the high taxes paying for people that mooch off the system.  /rant off
Yeah, sorry...  I get carried away sometimes.  Hell, my state has got plenty of problems as well, but I'm not your typical North Carolinian either.

You make some good points, and a lot of it is the reason why I'm sort of a reformed liberal, so to speak.  I'm not one of those damn neoliberals, but I believe social programs can be very effective if designed right.

The South definitely needs some help in the social services and education departments, but NC is a perfect example of a Southern state with a well-funded and organized collegiate system.  I like the idea of minimizing federal government and federal taxes while letting each state tax and spend as they see fit.

In general, things like social programs tend to fare better on the state level, because they can be designed according to regional needs.  The federal government has just grown too unwieldy to serve the people effectively anymore.  All it should be managing is the military, environmental protection laws, antitrust laws, trade laws, sanitation standards, border security, national security, and foreign policies.

Reminds me of The Castle, an Australian movie where the government wants to take some peoples land to expand the airport. Theres no killing or guns (well just the one) but its fucking funny and worth a watch.
