I believe the benefits of having him alive, outweigh the benefits of having him dead. We can't go globetrotting spreading democracy without a super villain. Bin Laden is that proverbial Magneto to our ProfX. Not to mention the huge budgets given to different departments of government to persue and kill terrorists, and eventually exterminate Bin Laden.

Let's hypothetically say we find and hang him. Then what? All our troops come home from around the world to flowers and balloons and the marching band and the USofA will never be attacked on our soil or foreign soil ever again? I doubt it. There will always be a bad guy. There will always be a need to justify the Dept. of Homeland Security and its powers and its budgets now that its there. And terrorists attacks will never stop. They are living in a different timeframe than us. Something like 200 years in the past.

Finding and killing Bin Laden is bad for business. The war on terrorism is now a ludicrous business.

So my question is, if Bin Laden were killed tomorrow, how would our lives in the USA change? How would peoples lives in the UK change? The rest of the world? Would terrorism be gone forever?

If Bin Laden were captured or killed tomorrow, would those wiretaps still be in place?

How would the death of Bin Laden affect the global picture?

PS- Yes we know if he were killed the families of the victims of 9/11 would be grateful. Lets think about it on a global scale.

What would this mean?

deeznutz: you may be right. Hypothetically, let's pretend we caught and killed him and made a spectacle of it ala Hussein.

Your pretty much right on. We would be expected to send the boyz home. Bad for business.
If he is dead and we had the body, he would likely be on ice in storage for a long time.

Then his supporters would get pissed off.

...A la Hussein.

Osama is maybe the super villain, but he has no super powers, if he would get caught and executed nothing would change, they would just say they are a step closer to the victory over terrorism ( ). He's just one of many.

He has been dead for years.  It is only theorized that he is still alive.  We have better prof that Elvis is still alive.

Considering Bin Laden doesn't actually carry out the attacks himself, nothing will change if he were dead.  The damage has been done, we seem to be sitting in anticipation of the next attack on our soil.  We have no idea when or if it will come, just as we were pretty much blind prior to the 9/11 attacks.

They did what they intended to do, they set us off course.  But sadly, in the process they also alienated the religion and the people they are claiming to be acting for.

I don't know much about this but didn't French special forces have him in sight a while back?

Perhaps if we killed him someone worse would arise.

Kill bin Laden, and we get ourselves a new martyr.

Capture him and keep him locked up, and we get ourselves a new reason to fight harder.

Let him live, and we have ourselves a sense of invincibility.

Tough situation, that.

Dont think his death would mean much global politics wise, it`s not like the war in Iraq or Afghanistan would suddenly end with crying taliban and insurgent forces coming out of hiding because of Bin Laden being dead.

Bah...I was in meetings all morning.  I think he is insignificant since he is running around from cave to cave in fear of his life.

A war shouldn't be compared to a business, Osama should be found and locked up, which was our initial purpose of the invasion of Afghanistan.

That was not the initial purpose.  It was the initial purpose of the media however.

At this point it would make no difference if he is dead or alive.  The general feeling of fear and paranoia, mostly created by the media, has settled in people's minds.  If al Qaeda was a big concern why did GWB invade Iraq instead of Somalia?

Because Somalia was mishandled so badly the first time by the US / UN, that nobody wanted to touch it with a ten foot pole. :opinion:

But do you agree that Somalia is infested with al Qaeda members while Iraq is not?

if we caught him and killed him, it would make him a "martyr", so he would "inspire" muslims to fight the evil United States..... so i think its better we just leave him, but keep him running so he cant plan another attack

Maybe, but Iraq is not infested with al Qaeda members at the same level Somalia is.
