well after my 2nd Seagate HDD i have come to the conclusion that they are the worst manufacturer ever for HDD's

i have purchesed 2 of there leading "barracuda" HDD's and both have failed in the month ive had them

so now i have to RMA them again, to be repaired and sent back to me...

only this time i asked for a WD Caviar

so words of advice for anyone think of buying a new HDD

dont buy seagate..

You have had a unique bad experience.  Seagate produces high quality drives.

Sorry for your troubles, but they aren't shit.

It's probably your $12 power supply.

2 Seagate SATA drives here, no problems at all. I think the problem my lie elsewhere.

EDIT: thinking back a friend had about 6 drives fail on him in a row, turned out to be a fucked up SATA controller card, I'm guessing you don't use one as they're pretty out dated now, but you might have a fucky mobo if you keep getting drive failures.

All the WD HDD's we ever owned went choo choo, 120gb, 200gb, another 120gb.
While the oldest machine of ours had a 10gb seagate HDD, it still ran without a problem.
So now every pc at home has a Seagate and we lived 'HDD failure safe' after. The end.

Yeah, agree completely. Seagate produce some of, if not the highest quality drives out there at the moment.

Same here. In fact my 4gb from my first pc is still running in a relatives machine. That's 10 years now!
I wish I could say the same for Maxtor, for which to date I have had 3 failed drives.

Seagate FTW!

My primary HD 80GB is two and a half years old already and still does the job more than excellent!
You my friend just had some very bad luck....
I like it a lot, and my two Maxtors do their duties as well!!!!

Off course, even some fuja haja suka buka HD could do the same though...

2x Barracuda's
2x 300GB External's
&
1x 250GB External

Had a bit of a "fake failure' once & it scared me but all was well. Only reason i might possibly buy a hdd brand other than seagate is the speed of the raptor's. It is pretty shitty though that you've lost 2 in a month. Did they take them back and replace the drives?

I've got 3 in my computer, and one of them an older 80GB drive that is probably 2 years old now.  Not a single problem.  They are fast and quiet.  The only two models of drives we use in our computers/servers at work are Seagate and WD, and so far WD has had a higher failure rate, even though we have more Seagate drives.

When we order our servers from Dell, we make sure they are using Segate SCSI drives.
