Love him or hate him, here is what I think of him.

George W. Bush.  This Man alone sparks debate over issues.  Democrates and leftist hate him, say he is the worst thing to ever happen.  But look at the plans he has implimented.  No Child Left Behind sucking away at our tax dollars, spying on some of our own citizens (not much, but still a crack in the door leads to it being swung wide open), and several other "left" ideas.  He also has done some very "right sided" things so don't get me wrong, I'm not calling him a democrate, but he is rather moderate.  The war was his downfall, he let his personal feelings cloud his judgement and he will be remembered in history that way.

What are your thoughts?

I'll cut my response short and just say he screwed up.

I think people often make the mistake in thinking that a single man makes up the US presidency. They like to put one face on the entire executive branch of the government. It is often forgotten there are entire panels of advisor's that make the policy.

Normally I would agree with you Kmarion, and I supported Bush forever.  But his tendency to force people out that don't agree with him or to ask for their resignation is not sitting well with me.  I understand that their was sufficient probable cause to invade Iraq, I supported the war then and support it now.  (I'm in the USMC and enlisted after the invasion, Jan. 3, 2006, as a matter of fact.)  The war isn't the actual downfall and I should have more clearly explained that, but the way he handled his advisors, his staff, and the war.
I believe he made a lot of good decisions, but due to media bias they never really to the light of day.  I don't know why he forced so much of his staff out but his disloyalty to his people and staff really turned me off to him.

leftists lean more towards progressivism and therefore socialism/communism.  those tend to come packaged with no personal privacy

I find that he made all the right choices in the beginning, then its like he quit caring about winning the Iraq war and just quit acting focused on it.  Of course his firing of secretaries and such is also wrong, but the main thing i don't like is how he states what he will do, starts doing it, and then loses interest and lets it fall.

the main issue i find that Bush really screwed up on is the border issue, which IMO is a good enough reason to say he's a terrible president.  However, there are people 10x worse who had a chance of getting into the office, and they wouldnt made it even worse

For the love of the triangle, the point was to see what others thought, including Britains, Aussies, etc.

Who's to say how anyone or anything will be remembered in history? Its writers would surprise the dead.

Far left = Loss of all rights, everyone is the same in every regard.  No individuals.  Think 1984 (the book).
Far Right = State of Chaos, total freedom, no government laws to tell you what to do. Nothing to govern you.

Nope, I don't.

The left side is more of state controlled, big government.  The farther left you go the more power the state has.  Left = Big Government, very few rights and freedoms.  Freedom of thought is restricted.
The farther right you go the more power the individual has and less the government has.  Right = Small Government, a lot of rights and freedoms.

If you think I'm wrong go find someone with a Ph.D. in political science to tell me I'm wrong because this is what I'm told by a Doctor in PoliSci.

I agree. It's much easier to blame one single person than all of them. Well, someone has to take the fall......

Any Doctor in PoliSci who believes in a single dimensional model is not worth listening to.  I suppose he has sources or peer-reviewed published works which you can link to which justify his viewpoint?

The single dimension left-right model is very outdated, multi-axis models are far more suitable for understanding political science.

You seriously need to do some research.

The far right is Fascism which rules through the Police State (ie Soviet Union, which ruled with a fascist iron fist), 1984 is a book about the extreme right not the extreme left.

The far left is a state that isn't a state, communisitic with a government which would indeed be a state of chaos with total freedom and no government.

I'd just like to say No Child Left Behind truly defies logic.  It's neither liberal nor conservative, in fact, it just takes the worst ideas from both sides and mixes them into one.  We are rewarding schools that are doing well, when instead we should be helping schools that aren't doing well.

Also, spying on people isn't a liberal/conservative debate, either.  It's a matter of how much you believe the government should interfere with peoples lives.  That falls into the anarchy vs. government control debate.  Spying on people is only believed to be "leftist" because it was used by communist regimes.  Just because you are a leftist and a communist does not make you a leftist or liberal in America.  Same with abortion.  People who want the government to outlaw abortion aren't communists, most of them would be right wing Christians.  Bush is a lot of things, but don't call him a leftist or moderate because he follows some of the actions of communist regimes.

You can't just divide all issues into being "left" and "right".  There are some that go "up" and "down".
